Hi, new to the forum. Just picked up a GB 500 (yes!!).

Pretty damn excited, now I want to get up to speed on it: where can I pick up a manual/parts book (if it's even in print anymore, pdf?). The rubber (grips/pegs/etc) is pretty much shot—any idea where to pick up replacements? Are they specific to the bike or pretty much a standard one-size-fits-all part? Any other online resources I should know about??

Appreciate it, this is my first actual motorcycle. Want to do it right and keep it in top shape—thanks.

when i bought my kx250f motocrosser, i got on ebay and bought the shop manual (factory shop manual that the kawi techs use) in PDF version for $5. i then went to work, printed it out on pre-punched 3-hole paper, front and back, and put it in a 3 ring binder. now i have a shop manual that will say open to the page i turn it to! oh yeah, i did all the work at my work...so i got paid to do it. you just have to know how to work the system! i do highly recommend a shop manual over a clymers or haynes, they are much more in depth. who knows the bike better than the factory anyway? good luck with the project!!

I would imagine you can get the rubber parts right from Honda, either your local dealer or servicehonda.com or one of the other online Honda stores. Good luck, nice 1st bike.

On friday I picked up a two part factory service manual (base manual and suppliment) for a 1986 Kawasaki Ninja zx1000. My local kawasaki dealer had it in stock (last one they had). I think it will surprise you what can still be had from a dealer.

Honda motorcycle company's orginal vision was for spares for the bikes to be common and plentiful so that the bikes would keep running for as long as the owners put in the maintenance effort. Considering you can still buy new parts for 1970's bikes from honda it would not surprise me if you could get new parts for your GB.

try hondaparts-direct.com you can search the fiche there for the parts number and the stuff they have is usually cheaper than the dealer.

grips are universal, pegs and other parts are usually not.

this is a good read:

great bikes, most spares still available from Honda. Thumpertalk is good, so are these:

just do a google search, you'll find a ton of info. your best bet for questions is joining the yahoo-group for the model here:

I only know all this because I seriously considered one recently. Great bike. My only reason for not pulling the trigger was the fact that I like to do 300-600 mile days when I can.

Thanks all!

I've been looking for a shop manual—can't find a PDF, only a rapidly bidded-up ebay auction version but I'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, these online resources seem like a good place to get started.

Parks.... you spend a lot of time thinking about me don't you.

Let's see...two of my favorite bikes were my Giro bikes...a CB160 and a Sears 106, so...yeah if those are big cc's then I guess that's what I like.

Unlike a lot of weenies out there...I like just about everything.

Stop hating me because I'm perfect.

The last two days have been quite relaxing. A much needed break.
I just said hello to another little friend moments ago.
