I got a set of new Tecknic this year...the one's with the stupid looking imitation chrome on the knuckles. They seem decent. Mary's has some Alpine Stars that hold up well. All I can suggest is go with an expensive pair with the most armour you can find....short of that stupid brand that look like something a Knight would wear.
In general I'm not a fan of Tecnic stuff, if you buy even the moderately priced stuff it seems to wear quickly....their top of the line stuff is good though. AlpineStar seems to have the best overall, price/performance stuff. It seems like with gloves the only way to get something decent is to pay lots of money. $150 usually gets a good pair.
I have no doubt they are worth the money, during my crash at Frontier I felt my hand go right in the front wheel somewhere...went numb at the time..thought for sure it was fucked up pretty bad..came out just sore. Head, hands and feet... well you just gotta spend the extra money to protect them, if they get screwed up they are never the same. And you may have noticed how very many racers have messed up hands.
