o.k. here's the dirt from the gnf.....
joe had it mostly correct, except he didn't include anything about 500gp (i know, no one asked about it, however, it will explain a little more about doug bowie). read on if you care, if not, go back to the threads where you all fantasize about buggering each other.
i knew that would get some of you attentions.
in 500gp, i got the hole shot and held it to turn three (just past the super lame chicane that they installed to effectively ruin the track) when buff harsh, eric cook, and greg potter flew by me on vintage 1 modified cb350's. still in the lead in 500gp till i came around to turn 7, (which is the start of the mongo back straight), i got passed by david rutherford (bsa b-50) and he pulled away. about lap two, john ricard (triumph 500) passed me out of turn one. i couldn't hang with him either (lacking hp), and two turns later bowie (riding in 250gp) came up from behind and slammed the door on me in turn six. bowie was being followed by brad phillips on a bmw 500 so i had to put my head down and get busy. well for the next two laps bowie, brad, and i went at it like we were racing for suzuki cup money (we weren't), and i held them off to take third in 500gp. bowie is a whining, dangerous racer that has delusions of grandeour of being a "great rider." he isn't! for him to protest mahanes for the win in 350gp class because mahanes was reckless is the pot calling the kettle black. so end result of the race (500gp) was rutherford slowed down to protect his neck (and lead over me) and ricard caught him at the checkered by a wheel for the win. because rutherford finished second he lost the national title to me by a point, but was gracious enough to personally give me the news and congratulate my championship. rutherford displayed all the characteristics of a true champion, where bowie went and cried to his mommy (wera officials and cornerworkers) like a baby. he's a punk, and that's my own honest opinion of what transpired at the 2004 wera gnf.
joe is right about me loaning his bike out to another racer (robin scudder), and yeah, i almost did crash into him on my second time lapping him in the chicane. thanks again joe for the loaner!
