Am I wrong in thinking that is not a 1968 Triumph 650 motor in that thing? That's a 59 or earlier pre unit motor isn't it?
As its registered as a Triton, 1968 would be the year of manufacture of the donor bike, with a name change to Triton or simply the year it was registered as a Triton. It used to be really easy to register motorcycles, especially if they where less than 3 years old over here and the date would be used from the time of registration, rather than the age from the VIN on the frame.

I used to register a fair amount of MX bikes for road use and all you needed was a letter from the manufacturer to confirm the bike was what you said it was. You didnt even have to provide that, but you got issued with a registration with a `Q` prefix which no-one liked, especially the police as they where a magnet to them as often, stolen, or stolen recovered bikes where registered that way as the ID had usually been ground off.

Bit different now though and the `Q`s are no more.
