First I want to say hello. I've been poking around on here as a guest for a short time, and I love the site. I have a CB550 that I have had 8 years and have always wanted to make a caferacer out of it. But you know how things go with work, getting married, and now a little one on the way its been on the back burner for a while now. So I will learn all I can now so when the time comes I will be good to go.

Now for my question. My bike hasn't been out since 05 and I just got her goin last weekend. The good thing is I think I finally found what was blowing my main fuse. (looks like the connection in the fuse block is loose) Well when I first got it out the front breaks were hanging up on it a little bit but they loosened up. So I didn't worry about it. I have been riding the last couple of days. Well now I'm at work at and the damn thing is hung up again. It's so tight that I have to give it a lot of gas to get it moving. I got some tools and am going to take it apart and see if I can get it loose again. Do you think I need to get a new caliper or does it just need to be worked a bit to loosen up? The caliper piston is just hanging up in the pot. Whack the outside of the caliper with a heavy screwdriver handle a couple of times. Should loosen up. Caliper's gonna need to be cleaned. No biggie.

You really should plan on replacing the piston seals in the caliper if you're going to ride the bike much. You can take the caliper off and push/squeaze the piston back in, but it's not much more effort to just "rebuild" the caliper once it's off. You should also consider replacing the rubber brake line, since they can deteriorate on the inside and cause problems. And since you're looking at that stuff, you may want a fresh set of pads...

You probably have some corrosion on the piston and/or caliper bore. Pop the piston out and clean them up with some emery cloth or fine sandpaper. You might be able to get by with the old o-ring and dust seal, but they're not expensive so...........Just be sure and lube the seals well with fresh brake fluid when you reinstall the piston.

Well I ended up getting it loose. I gave it a few good whacks. I think I am going to go ahead and rebuild it. Thanks for all the info guys.

cb fuse blocks are notorious for eventually coming loose and blowing main fuses. it is a flaw in their design that causes the plastic to melt very very slowly over time. If you can buy a new setup from honda or finda generic blade fuse holder and convert to that.
