I was inspecting the frame for just that reason last night. I am really trying to decide if running the stock battery box and side covers is what I want. The blinker mounts and other stuff are going as well has the helmet hook and other weighty little nuggets.
Welding the spot welded parts is a great idea.
I got the engine released from its cage yesterday, the sawsall cut through it like butter.
I love the sawzall too. It will remove brackets and lugs just for fun.
I just put a 4-1 pipe on my Seca 550 and it hit the centerstand pivot lug. One swipe with the sawzall and I had plenty of clearance without even removing the pipe.
I was going to go the POR15 route as I am trying to keep this build as low-buck as possible but what happened was;
I took the frame, swing arm and battery box to get blasted at a local powder coat shop. It was 50 bucks to get it blasted and when I picked it up the guy tells me "I'll powdercoat it for another $65..."
I told him no, I am really trying to keep cost down.
Get home and my buddy and my wife jump all over me telling me I should do it. (My WIFE!!?? WTF?)
just for comparison I called the local MACCO ./earlshieb paint shop you know those in and out no prep paint your rubber and antena paint shop that will paint your whole car dirt cheap.
I asked if I brought you a bike frame in primer how much would you charge to shot it in Urethane...just black. Hesaid he would use baked enamel(I like urethane better) for 200bucks. So you got a bargain all cafe builders in your area should get there frames to that guy quick while he seems to be hungry for some work.
Hey Lil Bull, what kind of price can you give me on a seat for the 450? I wanted to use the original seat hinges and latch so I was going to fab something out of an original seat pan but you appear to have actual experience doing this.
