most tachs are 12volts, or are stepped down in voltage. if youre running a system like that, you need a self powered tach, or need to figure out a way to power one. i had talked about getting the voltage to a vfr tacc, and using it, but youd have to have a battery to run it. pain. the only other thing would be a schitzu or one of the other really expensive tachs made overseas.

cable tachs work fine.

Yeah the cable tachs are hard to beat for reliability and simplicity. They are a bit heavy for a race bike, but for a street bike I think they look kind of old school cool.
And the Honda cable tachs I've found that work are usually dead on accurate.
What you need is a nice custom mount to make it look good.

But yeah...if you gotta have a electronic tach...Scitsu makes a real nice over priced tach (about $200+). Works off a rechargable battery, very light, very accurate. But you have to charge it and it's kind of picky about the way you operate it.

check out auto meter pro cycle tachs. i run one on my cb350 racer, reads to 14000 rpm, and looks damn cool. can be had for less than $200.00
