Has anyone ever used the orange RTV gasket making sealant in replacement of that paper gasket on the backside of the oil pump? None of gasket sets I have seen contain it and usually that gasket rips when being removed from the block.

Bill,
Are you talking about a 350 or 175?
The 175 uses two different types...sloper and vert are different. You probably already know that...and most 175 gaskets sets come with one. I'm kind of picky about that gasket. Although hylomar I'm guessing would work fine...on the 175 anyway it's a machined surface...probably wouldn't leak enough to matter even if you used nothing.

It's the regular plunger type pump and it does have machined faces on the block and backside of the pump. The 175 gasket sets I have do contain this gasket but the Vesrah 350 kits don't for some reason. It's much thinner than the rest of the gaskets. Thin enough that the eccentric driving the piston still easily clears the slots in the pump body when working using the RTV instead of the paper gasket.

It should be fine but I was looking for the horror stories. If Evil is getting proper oiling with hylomar this should work too.
thanks

I freakin despise paying $400 for a helmet...but then on the other side I LOVE having a new Arai (only thing that fits).

Still...I feel it's not fair because unlike most people I DO have a $5 head. $6 Tops.

I think this weekend I'm see if I can make 1 solid paper gasket out of the 2 or 3 crap ones I've got. On some areas veering away from the stock factory measurement gives me that bad funny tickle feeling in my swimsuit. Mucho Oilo bueno (Watching channel 27 is paying off)

Just gave away my perfectly good Snell 2000 helmet last week counting on the new rule change. I guess it pays to procrastinate?

depends on when it was manufactured. i have had old helmets that have the interior deteriorated, and that is certainly probably starting to happen on helmets that were manufactured over 4-5 years ago. I do not know how old my 2000 is, but I am going to look. If it is 2002 or beyond, I'll probably get a new one. That way i can get one that makes me look faster.

Anyone have a line on a line of helmets that has better visiblilty when you are tucked down on the tank? I keep looking for a bucket that has a visor opening that is higher up on the helmet, so you do not have to tilt your head up in order to see out, adding to the air resistance. If I could stay tucked lower and jsut raise my eyes up, that would be better. But I have yet to find one that does that. It's probably cause I'm over 6 feet tall.

BFD, don't get too sticky on that gasket. It's really not too much to worry about unlesss the mating surfaces are pooched real bad. INHO. That pump is really squirting juice at RPM.

What's the deal with Helmet debate? I assume you all were talking 'bout this at your banquet...
Can you fill us outsiders in, are they (the rulemakers) going to allow DOT or Snell 2000 helmets for competition next season??

BFD,
I'm the same way about oil system components. All my experience tells me it would be ok with hylomar, boogers or nothing....and yet I've fished through the garbage to find the old one to use again when I couldn't find a new one.

On our plunger type pumps I really can't see it making any difference.....no the gear type pumps....oh yeah, makes a difference there. The gasket usually provides the proper side clearance between the pump gears and the mounting surface.

I'm having Matt build my next helmet, it weighs 2 oz.
