Rectifier and VR are both btw the alternator and the battery/live circuit - they're there to regulate generated current to a reasonable voltage and convert AC from the alternator to DC current. Point is, you can't bypass them in the route from alternator to battery (or live circuit), but if you've got a steady supply of 12 DC volts (i.e. a battery) that you intend to hook up directly to your coils, you should be just fine. I assume this is a test circuit and not your permanent arrangement?

Right. Thanks, thats exactly what I needed to know. Something is all messed up with the wiring so I think I will start there and work backwards.
