How to Quiet my Cafe Racer Down

Get some perforated baffle tube, muffler packing materials, and zip ties. You'll need access to a machinist/fabricator if you can't weld/braze yourself.

Otherwise, the simplest solution is to just walk the bike out of the apartment complex and start it up at the exit.

What you are looking for is a stock exhaust. Then you can tell the neighbours to pound salt because you are completely legal.

Loud and leg burning, maybe they should have looked at the bike more and the computer less. Cad programs should have an "are you fucking kidding" that pops up when the user does something stupid.

Megaphones are used to make things louder. If you want quiet, you're already headed the wrong direction.

If you must use one because you like the shape, it has to be full of sound damping material like fiberglass. Don't use stainless steel wool, it doesn't do jack to attenuate sound. Basically you want a perforated tube running the length of the pipe, with fiberglass stuffed in the area around it. But with a megaphone shape you lose a lot because the packing has to be at least ~20mm thick around the pipe to really do much.

I don't know what your bike looks like but if you truly want it quiet, ditch the megaphone and buy a cylindrical shaped muffler with packing in it. And don't go overboard on how big the inner pipe is, the added restriction of a smaller pipe doens' tmake nearly as much difference in power as people will have you believe. Trust me, and straight through pipe will have significantly less restriction than a stock muffler.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to buy a Baffle or something to put inside of my Reverse Cone to reduce the majority of the noise that the bike makes? Not sure on which path to take or which size would be the right fit.

Reason being I live in an apartment and my neighbors cannot handle the noise of my bike.

so now that I have the GS in my garage, I can finally start ordering the things I need for it. The PO used if for track days, but due to a TBI from an accident (presumably on a different bike...) can no longer ride. My plan is to catch up on basic maintenance for it, do some suspension...

Thanks foe the response - I don't have access to a Welder but will look into some of these options more. How much did this quiet your bike down % wise? Thanks

Significantly... to elaborate:
The baffles that came with the exhaust were exceptionally tiny. I got the bike running well on open megaphone, but it was stupid loud. The baffles I made Significantly reduced the decibels, so now its probably 50%? Louder than stock.

Supertrapp style exhaust, where you stack in as many washer things as you want to make it quiet or not.

Not anymore, I retired yesterday! Now I'm trying to decide if I should start searching for an M900 or 1100Evo Monster as a new project bike... or sell everything and buy a toy car. But I digress.


Anyway, yeah, if it were me I'd use a different muffler. The reasons why get into a long description involving things the OP probably doesn't care about so I'll skip it.

Another thing people are doing to quiet things down is to put a honeycomb shaped substrate thingie in the pipe(s). Those are pretty much just converters with no coating on them by the way. They do broadband attenuation and might be easier to use than a baffle you put into the muffler.
