American football... ug. Each team needs a lawyer of three on the field to unravel the stupid rules and for the protests. Asinine game.
Run around for 5 seconds, stop for a minute, repeat. Throw in a beer commercial every now and then.

maybe make the same guys play offense and defense, limit the entire team to 20 players, but it would still be unwatchable because you'd still have to endure an ad for boner meds and corporate beer every 3-4 min. that and those animation transformer warrior gizzies. mind numbing. cheers, bcr

Don't know how many of you watched the game in a packed out pub full of screaming folks, but I sure did. Killer. Even if we didn't play so hot, we held England-a far better team-to a tie. The credit goes mostly to our keeper. Fun game to watch though...I'm not holding out hope to win the Cup, just to make it out of the first round.

Maybe if soccer players were allowed to fistfight from time to time it would be cooler...but then it would be like hockey, and we already have hockey, so what's the point?

In defense of American football: Yes, there is a pause between each play, instead of the almost constant back and forth action found in hockey, soccer and basketball. The use of "downs" sets up different scenarios that require different strategies. The way those strategies are employed is a much more cerebral endeavor than the beer, car and E.D. commercials would lead you to believe. It's more of a chess match. Sure, there's strategy in other sports -line changes in hockey, or "get the ball to the guy with the shoe contract" in basketball -but you really can't watch those strategies develop from your La-Z-boy the way you can with football.

Just because there's strategy doesn't make it fun to watch. 5 second of play (at most), 2 minutes of video replay, then a few commercials... fuck that.

surely you don't suggest that strategy in american football is subtler than that of rest-of-the-world football? I cringe and giggle.
