Well gentlemen, I may have found my bike. I reached out to one of my Dad's friend to give him an idea of what I am looking for. I told him I wanted a 1970-80 500-750 in tough enough shape to be cheap and that I wanted to use it for a cafe project. His reply was how about a 1971 yahama 650 twin with a 750 kit and cafe faring? He only wants a couple hundred for it because he has 6 other project bikes and 3 ridable bikes already and needs space. I am super stoked and as soon as the weather breaks a little Im gunna take a look at this bad boy. Let me know your thoughts on this bike as I am completely ignorant about cafes at this point, I mean COMPLETELY!!!!

I freakin love the Yamaha 650's...one of the sharpest looking twins the Japanese ever made.....specially the 1976 and earlier models. Motor is rock solid, all kinds of stuff made for them and they go pretty freakin good.

Course the first brandy new bike I ever owned was a 1976 XS650....so I'm biased. I'm always keeping my eyes open for a 76 650.

Curt, You almost can't miss with that bike, although I've seen people go a little too far with it, particularly with stuff from omarsdtr.com, which is getting pretty common, but it is a great bike.
I think Yamaha got it right with the bodywork on that bike. A set of clip-ons and rearsets will go a long way. Maybe a seat/rear fender...
Also, I'd make sure it doesn't get away from you. Buy it now.
