I want to convert a 1980 CB750- advice

7858 Views 44 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  knappyfeet
I just got a great deal on a Honda CB750 with less than 12k. Seems like a great bike, starts right up, runs pretty smooth. I want to convert it to a cafe racer style bike. I have zero experience doing this, don't really know how to start. I would like some advice from you all on how to avoid some mistakes.
Thanks!

Avoid the mistake of trying to turn your big heavy UJM into something it was never meant to be is the first thing I'd suggest.

I'm betting its a 750c, right? Nothing screams cafe racer like a porky Jap cruiser....

Just ride the thing and enjoy the fact you got a pretty good deal on a running bike. Then when you get bored of it, sell it on for someone else to enjoy.
Depending on what type of CB you have......... you might already have a cool superbike.

Any pics of the Honda?
I think an 80 cb750 makes a good cafe bike. I've got a few cb750's most are earlier SOHC but I have one 79 dohc. Im gradually turning a 78 cb750f Super Sport into a café bike. I've also got a 75 cb750f SuperSport, a 77 cb750f SuperSport, a 79 cb750l, and a 71 cb750k1. Plus a few different parts bikes. Even if your 80 cb750 is a "C" model when you do your conversion, the porky stuff will be replaced by cafe stuff.

Yeah OP dude if you have an F model please don't butcher it up. Google Freddie Spencer replica. If you have a Custom or a K model you can go two ways; ride enjoy as is until you find a more suitable start or become aware of Chopcult.

Either way props to you for asking before you turned a serviceable motorcycle into a Craigslist project.

We have any kits in stock?

can the OP learn how to use the forum before learning how to fuck up a bike?

Hillsy needs to be kicked out of this forum. Or grow up before he posts any more.

Perhaps I've missed something.....don't think hillsy said anything untoward.
I think the OP may have thought Hillsy had responded with what he rides and not KeninIowa.
You gotta be grown up to post on the internet? When did that happen?

Dont be an asshole.
Dont be an asshole.
I'm pretty sure he's confused me with ken - who's at least as big an asshole as me

I couldn't give a fuck anyway.

I can't be the only one who thought my response was funny.

Especially since I used a smiley.

It was funnier when that guy got mad.

Even better when he got mad at Hillsy.

Sorry Hillsy.

I also learned a new word, untoward. I hope to use it in conversation tomorrow.

It's even funnier because the butt-hurt isn't even coming from the OP.
I'm not being the asshole. Hillsy is the one making fun of people's bikes. What ever. I'm not mad. I just call it how I see it.

No, you are mad.

You're mad because I said a 750C would make a shit cafe racer and you own a bunch of CB750's.

But you missed the fact that I was specifically talking about the 750C.

Or you're mad at Ken and you're just not good at this internet thing.
Leave it alone dude. You must be a kid.

I'm not the one who came on this forum and started crying about how people needed to be kicked off because they said something you didn't like.
