re a cb125

The outer tubes are just for dress right? Almost like covers that can be removed without any mechanical issues and thereby reducing the diameter of the tubes between the trees to that below the trees?

no offense but if you are having to ask these kinds of questions then maybe you would be doing your self a favor by buying an inexpensive set of clipons.

but if you are reffering to the headlight ears asn the "outer tubes" then yes.

it is simple device a clamp with a bar on it YES! Thats the obvious when you look at them.then you have to have the material with safe thickness (wall) and the proper diameter mm for the fork tubes they are being bolted to.Then a 7/8 in diameter tube whetehr it be welded to the clamp ,made adjusted to the clap or clap to the clap are more design questions.then at what angle for ergonomics so you dont slip off the ends or lean on the to much or hit the tank.

So what seems like a very very simple part can turn into alot of work.Buy a set. Unless your going into the 175cc cafe clipon business .
Good luck anyway you dicide, remember crashing sometimes hurts ALOT!

Im so far behind ,that I think Im in first.

measure your fork diameter and then strat trolling foreign ebay sites, chances are you'll find a set for a 50cc screamer they have in europe that they don't have here.

I made a set of clip-on ape handers once but I cheated. I bought a press in bar clamp and then used an old set of ape hangers, cut them in half, trimmed them and pressed them into the bar clamps. Looked cool.

anyway, unless you are dead set on this project, and are confident enough a welder (and you have to be good enough to get structural penetration) you can probably buy them cheaper than you can make them. Champ sells smaller ones for $40 or so and I doubt you could get a pair of hommade ones chromed for that.

Just buy clubman bars...lol Just kiddin', long story. Several members of this forum sell nice clip-ons at ridiculously low prices - just an FYI.

I have a small machine shop and complete welding shop....I wouldn't think of making clip-ons if I could buy them for less than $100.

I am a professional fabricator.... I have the fabrication aspect of the idea covered including the welding.

My idea was to cut lower tree clamp sections (from another set) and tig weld them to 7/8 stock but in the quick sec I had to look at the bike yesterday I was not able to tell if the headlight bracket tubes were necessary for the function of the forks.

My bike is in a garage 30 minutes away and I rarely go there during the week due to work. I also have not picked up a shop manual for the bike yet.

Thanks for the great responses.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

might want to look into swaping to a 30mm front end.

if you knew the amount of newbie responses we get here concerning bike crazy, dangerous, and unskilled fabrication stuff you would not be all that surprised.

next time you ask a complex fab question make sure to state you have the abilities to do so. Nobody here knows you or what you do - for all we know you could have been a 17 year old kid ready to weld bars to the forks with an arc welder.

so "your welcome" for the great responses..

Correct me if I am wrong but I dont see my question having been "how do you fabricate clipons?" but actually:

"The outer tubes are just for dress right? Almost like covers that can be removed without any mechanical issues and thereby reducing the diameter of the tubes between the trees to that below the trees?"

I apologize if that is what is considered by all of the members of this forum to be a "complex fab" question.. If that is the case it would explain why someone would rather pay $100 than make their own although they have the ability.

Again.... I'm not sure where people are getting their info but to clarify, I never said anything about chrome nor do I have any interest in it.
