I remember reading about Ribi front ends a few years back and they were suppose to be great things. They were suppose to be anti dive, give better control in cornering, and better control over bumps. I am seriously considering building one for my bike. Hey even honda was testing it on the CBFs

So lets discuss. If these front ends are so great why weren't they used? Were they to ahead of their time? Is it because their ugly (personally I like the look of them)? I can make one and I think I might, I'm just curious about what type of compression, rebound, and spring rate I would need to use

Going through that thread I came across the Sachs motorcycle company and they started using it way before honda bought the rights. They used a much simpler design and looks to do exactly what its suppose to do, make the front time move up and back at the same time. What does everyone think of this design, much simpler than the Ribi/honda design.

At the time everyone thought anti-dive was a good thing, up to the late 80's early 90's(?) people were experimenting with all sorts of anti-dive tech, it was discovered that brake dive (into corners) actually helped by increasing steering angle (among other things). That would be why you saw a sudden drop in the use of non-telescoping forks.

That being said, those forks look really cool. I always loved the look of the old Greeves and Cotton racers...

(I could be totally wrong about the dates, I remeber reading about anti-dive stuff in magazines into the late 80's?)

Look at the caliper position, think it's floating? If not I wonder if it lifts the front every time you grab some brake.

I have a front end like that on the front of a V65 Sabre.

Its called a leading link. Works good with sidecar rigs. Mine does not have a floating caliper. My front end rises up with braking.
