Hi, from New Zealand. Been biking for 55 years now and have owned more than my share of them. Recently bought two Honda CD250 U dismantled bikes. Always wanted a CB350 twin but time is running out, so these will have to do! The one is running and boasts a shitload of aliexpress parts, but looks civilized. Otherwise, I've down graded to a Suzuki SV650 ( in my dotage),a DR Suzuki and a '76 XLCH. That's me in a nutshell and thanks for allowing me to join.

Welcome! The SV650 is a great bike. Very versatile platform.

Hello, I’m new to bikes I general, and picked up a 1982 Honda CB650 that was already butchered a bit. eBay parts and mods, bad welding on the seat hoop. Paid nearly nothing for it (it runs). Figured I can’t mess it up worse than it is.
I plan to strip it all, rebuild the engine, carbs etc and clean up the frame. I’m in Wisconsin.

Nice Chopper  Did you compression test it yet? I would recommend you start there and you will know if you need to go deeper into the engine or not. & did it include any original parts that appear removed, like a front fender.

No fender, just a couple of rat racer seats and an extra set of wheels. I’ll compression test the engine and go through every thing in stages. Lots to sort out

How available are 650 frames? Depending on how butchered it is, you may as well pop the motor into a "new" frame.

Also (for the group) what was the motor issue you had to look out for on the 650s?

1982 CB650SC had a SOHC engine and a really flaky alternator charging system that is prone to overheat and cook things. Don't waste big money on fancy batteries, the stock charging system won't like them.

Hi folks, David here from Tasmania. I have had a lots of bikes over the years, but currently have a lovely Victory Hammer 2011, a BMW K100 1984 custom on the road under special interest rego, and a BMW K1100 1995 in pieces awaiting a renaissance which is in progress. I like to do most of the work on my bikes myself from spanner work to spraying, but do get help with welding machining etc. Looking forward to seeing what gets posted…always interested in motorcycles 🙂
