Jap front for Tri

I am building a Tri 500. wanted to do jap wheels on it since from my understanding they are lighter, come with disc brakes, and I think will be easier to get cheaper. Don't have forks for the bike yet and was going to make a trip to a local junkyard to see if there are any acceptable donors. Are there any particular bikes that match up well with Triumphs? What mods should I make? Other ideas or nasty comments about mixing jap and triumph?

I'd run a Honda 550/four front end where it looks similar in period. If you have the triple trees you can measure the id for the bearings versus the od of your frame and then only have to worry about the stem length. I also think one side of the bearing fit the Triumph frame but you'll have to measure to make sure.
