Hi guys.
I am new here, so take it easy on me.

I was thinking about making tank indentions on a gas tank off of a 1976 CB750F.
I was told to fill the tank with water, heat the tank with a torch, and "roll a pipe" over the tank.
Any ideas or seen any articles?
Thanks

You guys are real helpful.
I have never seen a site so useless!!!
A community that does not allow new members.
The community's members itself are of no help.
A site full of no useful info.

Good luck with it!
I sure as heck wont be back....

Instead of saving us the time of answering the same questions over and over it's worth trying the search function. Then you don't sound like a retard when you ask a question thats already been hashed out. I typed "knee" and "tank" into the search function and got 10 hits. here's an excerpt:

Tricycle

This may be a stupid newbie kind of question, but what is the process for adding knee inserts to a tank? heat+hammer?

Depends on the tank. Tanks that were intended to have 'em will either have a metal strip that the knee pad stretches onto, or weldnuts or sockets that the pad screws/pushes onto. You can also just glue 'em on.

construction paper to make a template, mark both sides, remove symmetrical sections from each side and swap them.

Oops, I didn't RTFQ.

Yeah, what Rosko said.

you can heat and hammer too, but you will have to dress the insides with filler to hide the hammer marks. This is the way to go if welding is not accessible to you.

As always be careful with heat and gas tanks or there will be a big kaboom in your future.

Ok,
Maybe I don't get what Madmaxx is so pissed about.

"You guys are real helpful." Thanks, we try to be. We even answer the same question as many times as it is asked, although it is helpful if the person asking does a little research too instead of being spoonfed information that they may or may not be able to understand. It is also helpful if some information is given regarding the particular bike being worked on and the skill/ability level of the asker. There are quite a few residents here that are qualified experts on one or more particular bikes, like JB, Geeto, Camelhairy and others. I even know a little bit about some stuff.

"I have never seen a site so useless!!!" Personally I have never seen a site so helpful. Ask Krapfever, Quicklime Girl, GeorGe and others.

"A community that does not allow new members." OK, this one totally F's with my head!! YOU ARE REGISTERED AREN"T YOU? Your user name is Madmaxx and you can read and post messages, GET IT, YOU ARE A NEW MEMBER!!!

"The community's members itself are of no help." I'll see if I can Joe and Tex to hold your hand. They are the touchy feely ones here(I kinda really mean that in a dirty way)

"A site full of no useful info." You are apparently unable to either find or use useful info. I have found plenty here.

"Good luck with it!" Thanks, It seems to be doing real well so far. I have recommended it to others.

"I sure as heck wont be back...." OK, sorry we couldn't be of more help to you. I am sure you will get a better reception wherever you go. And don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Ken

p.s. Maxx, do you know what a fucktard is? Try the search function!

Hi Maxx,
I know that you asked us to be nice and all since you are a newby, but I am just feeling alittle like a prick tonight so here is something else that kinda pisses me off. I went to your bio to see what else I could find out about you, like where you are from or what kind of bikes you have, racing affiliation, homepage, anything at all that might help us help you. All I found was your e-mail address. What is an Ultrafastgsxr? Faster than a really fast one? Maybe you're ultra fast? Rossi fast? Nicky fast? Texy fast? or just half fast?

Sorry for the little rant, but if you want to come on here and bust our balls for being a bunch of elitist pricks, then I guess I can be.

Your friend,
Ken

Nice forum guys. It kind of sucks trying to sift through page after page of junk to find an answer using search. Maybe the question has been answered before. Maybe you answered it. Instead of saying "use the search function" why not link to a thread that will help the guy out?

The only person here who seems even a little helpful is Joe. Use the search isn't an answer. And I didn't see anything in the seached pages about a pipe and hot water. If you don't want to answer the question then don't! This forum isn't exactly thriving, you might try to not scare away the new members.

Kneesex - no one said anything about being elitist. The fact that you brought it up makes me believe that is what you think you are (which would make you a prick btw). Also if you are going to bash someone, try to get it done in one post. You look like a fucking toolbox when you write back to back post that don't really even say anything. Also if I were you I wouldn't be making fun of names when sporting one like kneesex. You're a tool! I'm out!

OK, I'm tempted to reply in kind, but I won't.

While I'm not on a ton of forums, so can't make very good comparative judgments about this one compared to others, I can certainly say that this forum and it's members have been extremely helpful, entertaining, informative, stoopid, funny, friendly, inclusive and exclusive.

It is what it is. It has grown quote a bit since I joined. Give it time, if you like it great, if you don't, move on...just please don't try to blame somebody here for not meeting your expectations.

punching in "knee indentations" gave me a post from geet that was exactly how we almost always treat people. "i have done this, that, and blah blah blah. if youre nearby, id be more than willing to help drop me a note"

its like people want a mentor or something.

Hehe....forum isn't thriving...yet there are hundreds of pages of "junk" to sort through.

As a home for fucktards...no we aren't thriving. As a home for bike types that don't need to be lead by the hand through everything we are doing just fine.

Take the tank to someone that does that kind of work and pay through the nose...sounds like the job is beyond your capabilities anyway.

Amen.

There should be a sense of humor disclaimer when you sign up here.

Hey By'

Oh, Just a sidenote... The poor fool who comes on and uses the search option to try and figure out how to do tank indentations is gonna find this thread... and run like hell, hah.

it is too bad the shitbag won't be back. He seemed like a nice guy....for me to poop on!!! fuckin poser. Madmaxx - that is a real original name, we should rename this guy Pole Sitter which both embodies the wannabe he thinks he is and is a slam against his sexual preference (that makes him a Squid *** for all you non-intellecutal types).

(in whiny voice) "I can't rub two brain cells together long enough to figure out how yo use a search function and I can't get what I want so I am just going to pick up my toys, call you all useless and run away...whaaaa...whaaaa. (I think I just soiled my huggies)

I feel better now.

That being said I have two more things to add:

1) If you are new here, fill out your goddamn bio, espically your location. You don't have to give your bra size or phone number or anything, just location and whatever else you want the rest of us to know about you. It shows good will and that you really want to be a positive part of the group. It is good manners on message boards these days.

2) This is directed more toward the admins of the site - I am getting sick of reading the same stupid knee insert or dual disk or tank fitment questions over and over again, can we get an F.A.Q. section going? I'll help write it/put it together, do whatever. We can make it a page on the site or a sticky post with a collection of links. It doesn't matter to me so long as I don't ever have to read one more "I have no idea about motorcycles, but I want to be trendy with an old bike so how do I put knee indents on my POS honda" post

You want knee indents? go get a professional set of bodywork hammers, practice for years honing the craft of metal working, and go biuld yourself an aluminum tank. Unless your name is madmaxx, they you can run your bike headfirst into a wall - guaranteed your knees will make some kind of a dent as you go flying forward.

Oh and so someone gets something useful out of this thread: wanna know why knee indents suck? because they are useless and actually reduce the function of your gas tank. Sue the capacity you lose by denting the tank will be measured in tenths, but last time I checked if you actually ride your bike places - you want all the fuel you can get. If I could magically make the cb750 stock tank hold more fuel without changing its shape I would in a heartbeat. fuck knee dents, your knees cover them up while you are riding anyway, its just so you look all hardcore badass at the starbucks.

now I really feel better.

It is nice to know that I am a tool. Apparently this guy can't figure out how to read my name. By the way, I have pretty much heard every sex joke that 6th and 7th graders can make about my last name. If I am not an elitist prick yet I want to be. Everybody needs goals in life.
Joe, you are the best cause you are nice.
