OK, so I am losing weight. Gonna try and get down to 187-190. My Van son leathers weigh a ton (I'll weigh them later). They're a size 52, I am 6 foot 2 inches.

so what are the lightest, safest leathers out there? The Vanson seem like overkill sometimes, they are so heavy. And I'm not going to crash going 200 mph on the straight.

Yeah...I've got Vanson's too...I feel the same way...hell after a hard day of racing it's hard to put the whole suit on a hanger back up on the hook in the trailer...things gotta weigh 20 lbs.

But then I've given them some abuse....some nice insurance slidding down the track on your ass or some other non-armored place.

thats why they are called "the club racers leathers" because they are that indestrucatable. other suits are lighter, but they dont last as long. ive had mine since ive started racing and it still feels good. although im fatter than ever now. no diet this spring. ive been looking at new leathers. spidi, a-stars, and the motogp leathers. kangaroo is nice, but its also like 3 times as expensive. i am sure vanson offers it. they must. kushitani is nice stuff. id love a syed suit. if cant come up with aything, ill probably get another vanson. or an a-star.

There is a considerable difference (maybe 5 lbs) between the older style VANSON single zipper with no perferations and the newer stle Twin zipper Velocity, Fully perferated.
Vanson lost my suit that I sent in for repairs! Not sure if they are going to give me a replacement suit with no cost to me.
I'll stay with Vanson if they make good on this issue. Tested their product twice last year. Good stuff.

yeah, what he said. i've had my v-sons for so long that the repair lady almost doesn't think they made them. she looks at every thing and says "we don't do this that way now". i got mine custom fit when i bought them and the fit is still spot on though i'm at the limit of the "expansion" room. (mostly raced bicycles back then so i carried a few less lbs). as JB said there is a comfort level with the security they offer. also, and real important, have had mine repaired at the track (for free) a couple of times. many of the other brands are a one trick pony and aren't so repairable. the road rash they display reminds me each time i put them on that this roadracing thing is dangerous (one tumble almost ended it all). keeps me in the proper frame of mind. and that's a good thing. but i must add "who is not in danger, he does not win."

I don't know how much my 2 piece Joe Rocket weighs but I have done extensive testing and they haven't worn through anyplace.
BTW I have a suit I bought last year that is a little too long in the legs and arms. I'm shrinking in my old age. They would fit someone about 5'10" 175 lbs. I paid $450 if anyone wants them.

I went and weighed a RevIt suit today, that fits me. Four (4) pounds lighter, with pucks and a back thingy (That aerodynamic pregnant thingy)

I just lost four pounds!! (If I can come up with the scratch)

i talked to a guy last night who had an agv suit. it was a few years old and had been crashed a couple of times. he finally had a highside and landed on his head and shoulder. the imact was hard enough to split the seam at his shoulder. it ripped open and he slid down the track on his bare shoulder. he showed me the scar. it was pretty narley looking. i told him id buy another vanson suit or a syed no questions asked. but those "cheaper" suits arent made to last like the vansons. the other guy that was over has a motogp roo suit and he said hes had a few get offs and it looks great still.

hmmm

Got home to find a message on the answering machine from Vanson.
They finally found my leathers in the warehouse! It's been about 6 months since I sent them in for repairs. Wooo-hooo. These are my skinny leathers so I better get one that diet like Scott had done.
Vanson Rocks.
