Leaving fuel in the tank

What can happen if you leave fuel in the tank for about 5 months without starting the bike? Does this cause any issues?

I always add fuel stabilizer to a full tank of gas before I put the bike away for the winter, which is usually early November till about now. I haven't had any problems. I do let the engine run till the treated fuel is in the carbs. If you don't do that, your carbs will generally develop some fuel residue that won't go away, you'll have to pull them apart to clean them.
After storage I try to burn through that tank as quickly as possible, or if I can't ride much, at least top it off with fresh fuel after half a tank is burned.
