Leaving fuel in the tank

What can happen if you leave fuel in the tank for about 5 months without starting the bike? Does this cause any issues?

Actually I dont care about the fuel, Im dumping it. What Im worried about is if the gas in the tank could have created some mechanical problems within the engine.
