OK, now that I have a line on my project and the bike is in running condition I have come up with another question. What helmet do you guys ride with? I have a helmet but it's a full face dirt helmet, that would look a little silly riding a cafe around.

Davida is nice, but stupid money for a helmet to match your bike, IMO. (Unless you got stupid money to spend, in which case baddabing)
I'd go with whatever fits comfortably and has a decent safety rating and doesn't cost anarmandaleg. Get a full face. Get a black one, or paint it black if it ain't. If you're racing, you'll need to comply with whatever sanctioning body you're racing with....

I bought my KBC from these folks; http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com
Good service and prices.

i have a davida jet. nice helmet but since theyre so hard to actually find, and try on, dont buy one unless you can. those brits have funny shaped heads. but i really like mine.

i use hjc, mostly cause i can get them for decent money and they seem to be well made for the most part and i like the fit. youll have to go and try on a few brands to see which fit you best. each helmet brand is made a little differently. so even though someone may like arai, and they are great helmets, it might not fit you so well. and the fit is really important.

i rock the arai quantums. i got a big and funny shaped head. not big and funny like jd.....that fuckers dome is impressive!

anyway, i also have a davida. makes me feel cool riding around with it on. i don't feel safe like in my arai, so i don't wear it often.

advise: go to a dealer and try on different models/makes of helmets. don't worry about designs. then when you find something that fits you well and you like. research it online and find your best price. i do like to buy locally, but hey, a bucks a buck (walmart philosophy taught us such).

good luck,

tex

I always use a full face. Brands I have used are Shoei & AGV. They both fit me good. I take a size small. Arai is another that fit me good, just haven't dropped the cash yet. HJC & KBC fit me really weird. It was like I was giving birth to my brain every time I would put it on or take it off. Check the dealers for last year models and you can always talk them down even if its this years model.

How did you like the AGV? I'm considering it for my next helmet, so I'd like to know what you think; quality, fit, finish, shields.

Last time I had one was in the mid 90's. The over all look was nice, paint was good, venting was OK. Shield was good, but on the model I had it was hard to change. Had side plates covering it, which loosened over a few years and would move with the shield. It fit me great, but I ordered it without trying it on (no place in my area carries them)Good thing was I ordered it through Dennis Kirk. They offer "No Hassle Returns" We stand behind every item that we sell, and if you are not completely satisfied - for any reason at any time - we will promptly refund or exchange merchandise, whichever YOU prefer.

Its really hard to give it a fair review since the technology has advanced so much. But in the 90's I liked it a lot. I was looking into the new AGV TI-Tech helmet. I read a few reviews. There is pros & cons about it. Here it is
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/agv-helmets/agv-ti-tech.htm

Right now I am looking into these brands for my next helmet pruchase Arai, Shoei, Suomy, & AGV.

Cool man, thanks. Definitely let us know what you think if you get it. I like that "Industriale" that hasn't been painted. I couldn't find a hot link for it, but it's at agv.com.
I would definitely need to find a dealer and try one on, but I've got some time anyway. Also, for all you racers, AGV apparently gives pretty good racer support. I heard that they take off $100 or so just for being a member of a club. Which is nice because some of their lids cost a pretty penny.

Hi Im kinda new to the cafe seen, have had different bikes but just love thease old ones. Cops dont seem to hound ya as much ither:) As far as helmet choices, I always always go with full face. Every time but one ive crashed its been on my face! I love Icon helms and gear they are one of the best, some of it is a bit flashy for my taste so I go with the all black stuff. I have wrecked a cbr 929 wering all icon stuff going like 120 and lived! Just a couple broken ribs and lots of bruses. The Er Tech wonted to se the helmet and he was surprized how good it came out from the wreck, said I pretty much own my life to it. Ripped the plasic windscreen right off. So anyways Allways were a full faced helmet. HJC isnt bad Ither if seen some pretty back dirtbike crashes and they always held up well. I would stay away from bell have seen them spider web from some pretty easy hits, and have in general heard bad things about them. Ride safe, Nick

I also have an ICON helmet and the sucker fits like a glove and it sure helped me out last summer when I went down. Didn't even have a headache afterwards. This may sound lame but what I was told when I bought my first helmet is to try on every brand that you possibly can because obviously everyone's head shape is different and the different brands are going to make their helmet shapes just a little different form each other.

yeppers! i really only fit into an arai quantum helmet. i have tried suomy, agv, and shoei (no dice turkey)! i still need to try a hjc, icon, fm, and shark. it's one of those things i need to get around to.... i got a large noggin', not jd size, cause that bastard has a freakishly large dome.

but it is big.

i actually like the way the icons fit me too. and i know someone who just got one and it seems pretty nice. i like the flat "rubatone" finish on them, and they feel nice inside. plus the i like the way the vents flip up and down. no feeling around to see if the vent is open. i dont like all the skulls and cheesey pink crap they have though.

I'm partial to SHARK myself. One for the track and one for the street. Lightweight, one button visor change, quiet, and did you see DuHamels get off at Daytona!!! Great price range from affordable to "You want how F**KING much, but you get what you pay for.
