im completely illeterate on this bike. i.e i dont know sh!t about it.

where can i brush up on a lot of info?

im looking for things like, diy mods. im big into watercooled vw's and if there is one thing ive learned from all that its that all the little mods add up to make the car great.

im just brainstorming off the top of my head here but im looking at things like:

an oem brake upgrade from a later year
making the kickstarter easier to kick over
making the clutch lever feel lighter
oem parts (most likely from later years) for engine performance
info on carbs (where can i get a set new, or alternatives, parts)

i havent purchased a bike yet, but there are two in the area for under $1k in good running shape i have my eye on. one is a 78 and one is a 75.
both look great as well. any reccomendations on what years to get/avoid?

Brake upgrade- twin disc conversion or change complete front end
Kickstart- something wrong with you? I can start 600 conversion by hand
Clutch operation One finger- probably needs correct adjustment and a new (lubricated) cable
OEM parts Join SOHC4.net, CB650 bits fit
550 has a couple of different frame design detail changes but motor is pretty much same for all of them
Carbs were changed on 78 K series, F series used same carbs right through production

good info, ive been told by some guys over at the vwvortex forum to check out sohc4.net

i havent ridden an older cb bike at all, but im going to look at one on monday. heard from a few older gentlemen that you gotta be a pretty big guy to kick them over. i thought they might be full of it since their old and prabably struggle to walk up a stairs... they also said the clutch levers are pretty heavy.
sounds like i got some bad gouge

one im looking at is a 550 on a 360 frame...
