Don't run it dead, then it won't charge correctly. Sealed lead acid batteries have a narrow charging window, unsuited for old charging systems. So expect to pop a cell once in a while due to overcharging.
i think the 500... think... it has a permanent magnet rotor, so it will generate voltage without a field exciter current. the honda regulators of that era were thermo-electric, and used a metal element that moved a conductor, so that when the voltage rose to a set number, the system cut out the voltage from the alternator. in theory, this should still work the same with a much smaller battery. headlights do draw large current though, so depending on the discharge capacity of the battery you want to use, you might want to wire in a headlight switch to turn it off when starting
I have recently built a cafe brat scrambler type bike using a Yamaha 125 YBR as the donor.
Because i have changed the tank i lost the original fuel pump that lives in the tank and had to opt for an external one from ebay.
now the bike will start but cut out as soon as ANY demand is wanted.
Bought this lovely hitter, 1000s ie. The picture shows the damaged side, a tank dent is the worst of of the cosmetics. The Ohlins and exhaust are upgrades. The po has fucked up the signals/taillight with cheap led's. Overall it is a cheap fix cosmetically.
Put a battery in it, the dash cycles...
New to the forum. About a year ago I picked up a 2000 Triumph Adventurer with 3,000 miles. I'm trying to "level/flatten" the bikes lines but there's not a ton of builds or aftermarket parts for an Adventurer. I do not think there's much I can do as I'm not a welder or bike builder so...
First let me preface my question with a little background. I have been working on and riding the Honda 350 twins since they first came out new (with a lot of other bikes thrown ). I have always had trouble with the stock carbs on these bikes as most people seem to have. I have a 1973 Honda CL350...
Is anyone running an older DR650 as a stripped down trail bike or desert sled?
I am currently working on one, and trying to find a good exhaust, tire and seat setup. Open to input and suggestions.
