Hi all,
Thought it was time to expose myself. Hey Jay your still my bestest friend. Here is my 5,000 mile, original tires, rusted tank, creampuff that I havent even heard run but love bike. Notice the free flowing exhaust. Besides cleaning all Ive really done so far is mount a set of cb400f bars. Might rob a parts bike that I just aquired this weekend to here it run. God I hope its not too slow.

hey it is a nice looking bike. not anywhere near as bad looking as you describe it!! if you give those tires to aaron, he'll use em to race in pre 65 next year. !!! aaron, sounds like you'll have some decent competition out there next year with frank c. that i cant wait to watch! it'll be really cool. oh yeah, you might want to think about getting the modern brakes for your bike. i think you'll dig em.

Me thinks it would be suicide to use these tires for anything never mind racing. Hard as a rock. But if aaron really want them.....

Its a 1976 Super sport, I am thinking of developing the first forward firing exhaust. Kinda gets rid of the idea of that heavy chrome horn. I just found what i think is a chrome mac exhaust, whats everybodies experience with one?

aaron would still be fast even with those tires. forward firing exhaust....i like that one. macs are probably fine for a street bike. i've never actually used one though. they are pretty quiet too. but that can easily be solved. aaron, how could you tell it was a supersport?? it doesnt have a supersport looking tank. at least not to me. maybe they only came in that color of red? or does it have to do with the guages and chrome rings?? you know me, im a specialist, i dont know jack about other bikes than the ones sitting in my living room, basement, family room, bedroom. funny how they collect everywhere but the garage. i bought a cb750k front wheel off of ebay from some guy who sent me a rear wheel by mistake. if he doesnt want it back, and i get my refund, it may be up for grabs. its nice and shiny too. oh yeah, be sure and try to save me one of those tires we talked about. i dont have the $$ now for it, but i will soon.

Just mounted the mac exhaust and fit a set of working carbs, Thing fired right up and ran pretty good considering 22 years sitting in a shed. I had already changed the oil ect. ect. ect. Sounds pretty good with the mac. Seems to like to rev, but doesnt like staying steady on the throttle. Ohh well I need to rebuild my carbs anyways. Only a well trained Honda fanatic could know it was a Super sport without the exhaust. Fess up Aaron who are you really..

oh he's trained. we've been around these damn 550's too long not to know.

yes, the tank is supersport. but then starting in 77-78, they all had that tank. the color is orange, only available on the ss. you can actually see the supersport sticker just below the Honda emblem. if you're trained well enough you'll notice the bend in the kicker which only the ss has to clear the 4-1 pipe

looks good guy, glad its running now. mac pipes aren't bad. I've got on one my 2nd racebike and it seems to work well. not real loud or free flowing but works great for a streetbike

Sweet ride, Guy. Wow that definate makes me sound like I'm from Maine.

i thought i could see the ss on the tank. but i really wasnt sure. i know the tanks are different. it just looked like the regular bubble job though. i thought they had more of a square tank. anyway....the kickstarter's a good one though. mike uses a mac on his 360 race bike. i think its actually for a 350 though. that and he bent it around to the other side of the bike for some reason. its very very quiet. that things been ported and valved so it moves out fine. i wouldnt know how it affected power. anyway...why are the turn signals different??? cuz theyre down low? is this boring you guys? i know its nothing exotic and all.

it is a nice looking bike.

Good question about the blinkers. Im looking for a rear set. Specific to the ss or will k ones do. Jason (my bro.) came over and we both thought the mac exhaust was loud, probably blown out some. Im a sucker for a four in line when they sing. I talked to this guy last night that deals in Yamaha rd parts and bikes, says the rd 400 will destroy my precious 550f. Whats the general consensus? Can the 550 be made to go reasonably cheap or is it destined to be a "pretty bike"? Im still eying that rd sitting in my shed.

i think hot rod 550 parts are probably easier to find. out the box the 400 should smoke the 550. i think the 550 will probably take to hotrodding quite a bit better too. you have to rememebr, back in the day, those rds were killing almost everything they came across.
