Hi guys,

I'm new to motorcycles as well as cafe bikes. My dad and I just started working on some project bikes together and it kind of took off from there. He bought a 1971 CB500 last month, followed by a 1979 KZ650 the next week. I am currently courting a 1976 CB550 super sport that I want to turn into a cafe bike. Two months ago neither of us had owned a motorcycle (beyond a Yamaha enduro 175 that got occasional use) and now we're into it all head first.

I just wanted to say hello and hopefully pick up some tips for building a cafe bike. This seems like a pretty good place.

What kind of car is that in the picture, I just can't make it out. Kind of looks like a fiero or MR11. Actually it kind of looks like a mustang hatchback with the hatch removed....

Autocross is a lot of fun, as you well know. I only did it once with a clapped out sprite and didn't do so well. My buddy used the same car and came in 2nd his first (and only) time running. We would have continued but the club that ran the events broke up.

Thats a nice looking bike, except for the mufflers. Originals are hard to find and VERY expensive.

You will have fun here, just be sure to wear your crash helmet if you get involved in discussions.

That 500 will be left alone, actually. That one belongs to my dad, who loves his vehicle bone stock. The cafe bike will be a cb550ss that I'm trying to get my hands on.
I'm just getting into bikes right now, but I've done a lot of car work. Projects with my dad include a 67 Bronco and a 59 Triumph TR3. I've got a Porshce 944 that I do my own work on, so I'm no stranger to mechanics. I just need to learn a bit about motorcycles.
I've read enough posts on this forum to know what I should and shouldn't ask... search is my friend.
