Hello! I just picked up my first project which is a 1980 Suzuki gs 250e if I recall correctly. The bike has been in parts since 05 but most of the parts came with.
Do you have any tips in general that I should think of while doing the project?
Where do you guys buy parts from? Both spare sparts for the engine and diverse other parts? Im located in Sweden so Europe in general is fine ordering from.
Looking forward to getting started on this project!

(y) Get the engine running good before you start ordering lots of other things.

Those rubber hoses (stacks) that come off the carburetors and into the airbox, not an optional part, you need those if you want it to run nice again.

the fuel tank looks 450. maybe in europe the 250 also had one with the same shape. webike might have some sort of 2-1 exhaust. check cruz for piston kits. koni/ikon shocks, good tires. check and see what larger bore suzukis will fit for more cc’s, keihin cr’s too

Thank you! I will check that out. Im not to sure about the ”450 tank” the seller told me it was a 250 but maybe with a 450 tank?
Thanks for your input!

Thanks! I did not know that, do you think I should go for original or go for more cc’s? Im trying to figure out if its worth the $ for more cc’s.

Your bike is a GSX 250, the tank looks original.
I would check out CMSNL for any genuine Suzuki spares.

Depends on finances, rider weight and where you plan to ride it in the city, on highways or a race track.
Your bike was based on an engine that lends itself to more cc's but that is an expensive road to go down unless you have a larger displacement donor engine to work with where parts are largely interchangeable, that could be a game changer. We have motorcycle scrap yards here where you can buy used motorcycle parts, not sure if you have the same.
The CR carbs dirkchecken recommended are great if you have lots of money to spend and plan to modify the engine for racing performance. If you plan to plate the motorcycle for the street, I'm not familiar with what that involves where you live, but here the first task would be to insure it and plate it for the road if that is the intended use, and then modify the motorcycle to suit afterwards.

I was working at Suzuki dealers when they were a current model. Bit under-powered as it was basically a small piston 400. If you know anyone with a milling machine or boring bar it's worth making it bigger. Motor is so overengineered it's just about impossible to break them (unless you run them without oil)

The GS300 was basically the same motor too, you might check to see if you could interchange parts to increase displacement?
