Funny...that looks exactly like the ones you can buy. Even the handle looks cast.

However...if you did make it....I'll send you $20 for one. Assuming it fits the 74 350's....I've heard there was two different spacings on the exhaust fins.

JohnnyB, that's not a cast part....those are tumbling scuffs. That's a great piece, especially if it was done manually!

I put it on ebay to see if there was any interest. I programed it in FeatureCam and machined it on a Prototrak. I could make them a lot faster on the Haas.
I do stuff like this so i don't have to work on customer parts.

So how did you get that finish on the wrench? And the nice radius on all the outside corners? On both sides. Must take a heck of a jig...I still think it's cast except for maybe the fin notches....send me a pic of the wrench in the machine and I'll believe you.

Or...sell me one for $20 and I'll believe you....see, I'm always willing to compromise.

Here's a picture of it in the machine. I'll sell it to for $20 + $100 for shipping....only because you're married to Mary.

How do you think we machined these 3mm wide slots? This was a casting that wasn't good enough but it was the only way they thought it could be made..until they came to us.
We make it for less $$ than the castings cost.

Here's a part that was a casting but we machine out of a block of 6061.

I wanna see a picture of the handle the next time you machine one from stock. Still looks to me like a cast blank that you are machine slots in. Hey... I know how devious you are...you can't be trusted...your last name ends in a vowel.

Don't mess with me or I'll take some of that free metal you gave me and machine my own....by hand....like a real machinist!

All the real machinists are over 65. When I started we had no EDM machines, no DRO's and hardly any tools. We even had to sharpen our own drills...a lost art nowadays. We used a cold chisel and files to shave in punches for dies. Anyone can use CNC wire cutting to make dies now. My son was talking to me today about how few real machinists we have had working for us over the last 25 years. Very few that could think and the ones that learned on CNC machines don't have a clue about how to make something run on a manual machine. They don't know what backlash is and how to compensate on a machine that's not in perfect condition.
You probably have learned more on your old Bridgeport than the CNC "machinists" will ever know.
We are thinking about getting a multi-pallet 4 axis horizontal that holds 100 tools. It would eliminate the need for hiring more "machinists".

Speaking of backlash....I got the backlash on my 57 bridgeport down to .005". Did a bunch of research and guess what....bridgeports have a "split-nut" on the x and y axis. You pull the table off...take the nut out...cut it in half down the slot that's already there...then you tighten a little screw that can be reached when the table is installed. The little screw every so slightly draws the two halves of the nut together and compensates for thread wear. Table does get just a tad tight at the ends of the travel...a combination of the gibs and the nut...but not too bad.

I'd love to go CNC if I had the money. Don't have time to learn all the "real" stuff. My guess is the machnist 50 years ago would have given up their tools for CNC in a second if they had the choice.

That's true. I sometimes wonder how I made any money w/o CNC...but we did....but it was harder.
I just think you should learn on manual machines first. It makes you a better CNC machinist.

Could you make one that would fit the exhaust clamp on my Ducati 160 Monza Jr. for the same money. It is smaller than the the 175's etc.

I managed to break most of the fins getting it off, and now that the engine is rebuilt by Steve D. I will have to put it back on. The clamps are real hard to find so I don't want to ruin another one.

I have a 160 nut and I will make you wrench to fit it. I've been thinking about making some replica nuts because most of the old ones are broken. I silver soldered a large brass hex onto the 250 I raced years ago.

We have found most operators make junk...or cut off body parts.
Most the stuff we do is close tolerance and requires thinking.
