I spent some time at NHIS yesterday scuffing the new tires. A couple things I noticed, Turn3 transitions are VERY bumpy, Turn2 seems to be alot smoother and excellent traction, T4 to T10 are the same,T10 to T12 are smoother. as this was a Ducati track day they did not run the tight 10 so I don't know if they are running that config. for racing. All in all the track appears to be in good shape with excellent traction. Note- it was 85 degrees!!!

Oh yea, it is so much fun to run with the modern big bore bikes. The only thing they had on me was the front straight!!! Some folks came over to me and just wondered what the hell I was riding!!!! Pretty darn funny.............

I really hope we don't run the tight10 this year.
Where was T3 bumpy? At the apex or the start of the hill to T4?

Z,

I have learned in the past to take info and decide for yourself. With the Modern bikes you may not notice the T3 bumps as much as I did. I'd like to know what you think after you run it. BTW-Surprise- the local forecast is for r__n this weekend.(i just couldn't say it.

Good Luck and I know you will do good...

They ran the normal configuration and yeah there was quite a few people. They seperated sucky people vs. fast guys. I signed up sucky and thought I was going to get taken out a couple of times. I decided early on to pass mostly on the inside. Mostly cause they like to get on the gas when they see someone else and I didn't want to get taken out by someone who doesn't understand that an RS will just about out handle anything.

Rain it did, and i fell off. entered a 1/2 hour GT race to get some laps in and fell off on the 8th lap; about 12 minutes in. started 25th and was up to 2nd, chasing this guy Brett Gyer on a Duc 1000 DS. too fast a customer for me apparently. highsided coming out of 2, bounced off the wall. end of my day. couldn't race 125GP due to the bike being broke, and the guy that won was going 6+ seconds slower than me. quite frustrating. bad start to a championship campaign. it was a hell of a lot better than a good day at school though.

i didn't have an hour and 15 minutes, but i appreciate the thought. i only had about 15 minutes.
the fall wasn't too bad, i didn't hit very hard. i slid along and bounced off the wall, but i hit feet first so it wasn't bad. i was a little sore that evening, but otherwise okay. you slide for quite a ways on wet pavement, it's pretty crazy. it would actually be kinda fun if it weren't for losing the race and breaking the bike.

Mary crashed there once...same thing..slid up and tagged the wall with her shoulder...just sore for a couple of days. Luckily most people fall just after the apex....a litte farther down and 30 mph faster and it could get nasty.

I'm glad I didn't see you fall...it would ruin my image of you :)

yea, if i had high sided there in the dry i'd be hurtin for certain. 'course, a 125 doesn't have the power to high side there in the dry, so i guess i'm okay. i probly stopped sliding halfway between the airfence in 2 and the first cones for T3 braking. i figure i was going maybe 50mph. bottom of 2nd gear.

don't let it ruin the image of me johnnyB, it wasn't MY fault that i fell.

not too bad. broken right peg, bent clip-on and fairing mount, and broken front brake lever. i use the break-away clutch lever but somehow i don't like the idea of a break-away brake lever. i feel like it might break-away at the wrong time. the biggest thing is my throttle; the clip-on bent, but also the wheel mechanism that spins the cable is messed up. i have a feeling when i take it apart it might just fall back into place. anyway, too much to fix in 15 minutes. hopefully i can hit the track with it on the 10th when i'm at Hawk School, just to make sure everything's back up to snuff.
you gonna go to that aaron?

I will if you help track down a Choke enrichment holder downer for a 93 rs125 Keihn carb. Mine broke and have rigged it down but the low end is still too rich because of this and makes it difficult for a movice to learn to drive. Especially when it only runs good wide open, which makes it even more peaky.

Can you ask one of your 125 bros?

Aaron,
Hiroshi is supposed to be at that track day with this bike I built him. Do me a favor if you are there and keep an eye on him. If there are any problems with the bike you probably know them better than anyone else there. Not asking you to be his wrench...just don't let him blow it up if there is something that looks way wrong. You know the shit that happens to the 175's so if you get a chance look it over and make sure nothing is falling off or burning up.

I've told him NOT to run the fairing during this practice cause it's breaking in and I want it to stay cool....tell me if he leaves it on...that voids his non-existant warranty.

So you can judge performance....it's a 56mm bore (my pistons), .040" copper head gasket, PE24 carbs, 122-20 cam, mild porting, PVL timed at about 43 degrees, probably 215-220 lbs.
Thanks,
JohnnyB

hey zach, sorry to hear about the off. glad youre ok though. 6secs slower huh?? wow. chasing a 1 liter duck on a 125. thats pretty funny. i bet that was quite the show! the second best part of racing is crashing and not getting hurt!! watching peter b sliding donw the track int he rain durring the endurance race a couple of years ago was one of the craziest things ive ever seen at the track. he just kept going and going. and dont you all going blowing up your bikes at the track days.

yea aaron, i can ask. but first of all, howcome you've got a '93 carb on your bike? i thought it was a '95? also, Rising Sun Cycles is the spot to go for all the parts, i'm sure Steve's got what you need.

http://www.rscycles.com/parts_books/rs125_Pre95/carburetor.htm

that look right?

or e-mail Steve Aspland at [email protected]. my guess is that it's not an expensive part. dunno if he's got it in stock though. i hope you can make it man.
