I don't know....I've used them for a bunch of stuff. A little pricey on some things, but I've always been happy with what I've gotten from them. I've had them lace up custom hub/wheel setups, bought spoke kits, rims etc. Haven't had a problem yet.

I have used them. I have broken their SS spokes on a street bike. It is the reason I went to cast wheels on my Norton. They were not concerned with broken spokes and I was freaked out by them. I really have soured on SS spokes and now they do not offer cad plated spokes . I think they said they have plain steel spokes, I guess I'd have to have the wheel built shipped home and then I'd disassemble it and get the spokes plated! Minor bitch ,I guess. What do they have for flanged rims?

9 times out of ten broken spokes are caused by improper assembly and maintainance of the wheel. Usually caused by a wheel put together too loose...allows the spokes to flex...they work harden...they break. And since SS work hardens much quicker than regular steel they will break sooner on a poorly maintained or assembled wheel.

Yes ,they assembled the wheels. It was a MKIII ,they have a conical rear hub with wildly different spoke lengths,maybe that was a factor. Plus the MKIII Interstates are heavy. Mine was loaded with my wife and I. Also luggage and we were running high speeds. The Lester mags are not failing. But neither did the carbon steel spokes fail. I think SS spokes are not a good idea for demanding uses, but good for show.My 2001 BMW GS either has magnetic SS (unlikely)or it has carbon steel spokes, and I think BMW would use SS if it would hold up.

There are a TON of race bikes using SS spokes...but in general they tend to be a gauge or two heavier than OEM. Don't think I've ever seen an SS spoke fail on a race bike. Tons of 700 lb Harley's use them too. I'm guessing Buchannan's made some error on assembly or sizing.
They need some special care....proper use of anti galling lubricant and they like to be kept tight.

A lot of guys can put a wheel together, but the only guy I know who can put them together tight (the tighter they are, the harder to align they are) is Talabach. That's not to say there aren't others, but when it comes to race wheels (especially with SS spokes), I pay him to do it. I'm worth it. Doug

I finaly used Buchanans(the only game in town) ,and I am sorry that I that I was leery to use them. Robert Buchanan knows wheels, period. They were so timely in this day it was unbelievable. The quality on the polished Excel flanged rim and the lacing was so good I'll have to upgrade the restoration now! I can send or post photos for anyone interested.

lance has an akront 18" wm2 40 hole and an akront 18" wm3 40 hole. he is asking $350.00 for the set. both are shouldered style rims. they would both be polished before they are shipped out. the wm3 is NOS, drilled, but has never had spokes installed. wm2 is used, but in great condition.

who is doing your lacing/truing work? lance can do that too! email me off list at: [email protected] and i'll give you my number if you want to go forward on any of this stuff.
