alchohol will negate the pain from a cracked rib at day #6. however, a broken clavical still requires narcotics...or when drinking, a fairly high tolerance for pain if one is prone to ineffecient motion.

thanks guys-

the collarbone and ribs are coming along fine. i really haven't been using much of the meds. i've needed to work my ass off this week (i'm the only gardener on a 14 acre garden and we have one last big springtime event coming up next week)so i've had to juice up a little bit to get through the days, but i still have the majority of my perscription to trade with JB. mike, your right, the collarbone doesn't really hurt at all until i use it too much, then it's just kinda dull and quick and gone once i bring my arm back down...it's definetly the ribs that can kick my ass. the clavical was a pretty big break, just barely touching in the x-rays. i go for more pictures tuesday morning and if it hasn't begun to knit in really nice, we'll pin it together. bottom line is i'll be good for granite state.

rosko, i'll give you a call when you've had a chance to get back from sunday school.

thanks george-

actually, the broken rib is the 5th from the top (my fault george)....and the first two pretty much overlap in the picture. it's just a little crack and can actually be seen better in the shoulder x-ray.

yeah, jb, i get more pictures in the morning and if the doctor doesn't like what he sees, he's goin' to pin it. he liked my range of motion last tuesday so we'll see if i effed it up this week. by the way the Dr. is really good....

yeah tex-

i remember your clavical hunt this spring. in fact, i was cursing you in the infield, then the abulance, then in the ER, for you're "every body breaks a clavical" rampage. then, each time i saw you i just plain forgot to bitch about it. but yeah, i kinda think you cursed me...something about me having a good bike for the first time.

seriously, everyone in the pits was so great...but tex and casey were just awesome. tex made me a care package for the ambulance ride that included everyone's phone numbers, a collarbone strap, and 5 marlboro reds. then tex and casey show up at the hospital immediately after the races and get me all the food, beer, and meds that i could stand. then when i metion how glad i was not to be at the races solo, as i often am, driving my own truck, they tell me how they'd already decided that they'd ferry me home to NY if there had been a need. then for the rest of the weekend, i couldn't do anything without casey anticipating my next move and helping me the whole time. thanks again guys.

personally, i think rosko's ET is more gruesome than the bone pictures.

i won't get as much hardware as dale, but yes, jb is right again. screws and plates go in thursday. seems there are at least two little fragments besides the big ones that will be jigsawed back in to place as well.

jen and pete et. all-

thanks so much. the surgery went well. about 1.75 hours and the doctor was happy. i was home by early afternoon and haven't felt really bad yet. there's some tenderness around the appx 6-8" incision, especially where it comes in to the neck, but i'm happy with the results so far, and feel much better for the future knowing everthing has been realigned. i'm home alone all day today, so i'll make some calls and see how you guys are doing.

i'm just off the phone with my doctor. so i got a "big" stainless steel plate, 6 big screws and two little screws. seems there were a lot more fragments than were visible in the x-ray. they're all back in place now and looking good. the most intese (but not crazy) pain is in and around my neck where the big piece of bone had to be pulled back down a couple of inches into it's proper place. the cool thing is that the ribs feel tons better now that nothing is askew. there's a chance that in a year or so, the plate will need to come out due to it's size and proximity to the skin...so i may not have to stay on the homeland security watch list for very long.

thanks again guys. i'm still mostly just anxious to get out on the FCB grid with a good bike and give chase to the points leader.
