Yes they are the same.
That's why you see people putting RD350 top ends on RD250s, making "sleeper" bikes.

I know I have at least one or two bottom ends still in engine cases.
I have no idea how close to being "in spec" they might be.
With any old Crank that's sat an indeterminate time, the outer seals will need replaced; but labyrinth seal normally don't. If it was me, I'd find a trusted wrencher who really know his stuff to check the dimensions VERY carefully before even thinking about putting an old one in w/o a rebuild. I do have a Factory manual which gives the tolerances, but you better have some very precise measurement tools and ability to use 'em...but I'm sure you know that.

If he wants one, I can check into what, or how many I have, but chances are they probably need rebuilt.

Yeah, it's a funny thing, I'm guessing rebuilding that crank w/new seals and bearings is probably gonna cost more than the bike is worth. And I have no idea whether the rods are good. And I honestly don't know anybody in his area.
But thanks for the info, i'll see what happens with it...

Have any RD400 transmissions? Countershaft sprockets? Clutch baskets?
Interested only in 400 stuff. I have way too much 350 stuff.
Thanks
Sorry it took so freakin' long for me to get back to you. I've been busting knuckles trying to fabricate a new fairing bracket. On my second try now....sigh.

Anyway to my surprise I found a complete RD400 bottom end with pistons still attached (no jugs or heads) stashed with some other cases. I thought they were all 350s. But it's clearly stamped 1A1-XXXXX. The clutch is still attached. I forgot to check for a countershaft sprocket, but they're still available from many sources.

Anyway, since like everyone else, I have more projects than time, $$$ or space, if you want the entire thing, let me know what you think is fair. With everything I have going right now, working on both RD350s, plus I'm overdue on oil changes for both the Ninja 250 & Z, it'll be a little while before I want to deal with taking apart something else. If you only want the clutch basket & tranny, and don't mind waiting awhile also please let me know.

Again, sorry for the delay. It always sucks that I don't have the $$$ to buy the winter project parts stuff I need 'til March (tax return). Then the last couple of rainy months before summer are spent trying to catch up with what I wished was done by about January...

Add the fact I'm likely way slower and less proficient than most of you here, well I don't let that bother me...stubborn as hell :)

I have a bro that needs a useable crank/rod assembly for an RD250. I don't know if the 350 uses the same...

I have several bottom ends, I found one case tonight in particular, when I was checking on 400 stuff for Unga Wunga; the prefix was 352, which I think is a RD250, but I have more at least a couple more that are 351; being an RD350 it would work too.

Nearly any used Crankshaft you buy will probably need some work, unless you watch a friend take it out of a bike that ran an hour before; and if that isn't the case, I don't have the precision measurement tools needed to ensure how close to being in spec any of them might be. I would consider these suitable for rebuilding only, having sat in my garage for many years.

Quick, I thought I was the only one that had the time but not the money...never seems to change.

And as for slow work, unless somebody's payin' I tend to take my own sweet time unless I know exactly what I'm doing, which is rare.

I'll ask my bro if he's ready to spend some jag on a crank rebuild, and I'll let you know.

Thanks
