Hey Guys. I’m new here but wanted to run this one by you and see if anyone has any ideas. I recently picked up a decent RD250 project that I didn’t need. It’s a fresh top end and I can see it’s been ported, DG expansion chambers and a cross over intake on it. They have pod filters on it and i believe the RDs don’t do well with the pods. Should I go back to an air box? Someone suggested to fabricate a new box and leave the pods in the box. Any suggestions from anyone?

Are you going to race it or is it for regular street use?
Mikuni makes 3 different length stacks for what that's worth. Being a 2-stroke you can get away without a flame screen if you want to run an oiled filter which would be recommended if you have no airbox to protect a paper filter.
... TZ race bikes in the day ran near open carbs but they also ran mostly full throttle, longer intake will make the carburetor work better at lower throttle, like a 2-stroke trials bike which has a long intake stack.

Pods work just fine and are generally better than stock airbox. Mikuni inlets don't do anything for power. We tested a few different intake options on the Dyno on a GT550 with more or less identical carbs and it made more HP at all revs open than it did with velocity stacks.

But the best option for the street is a Y boot from Economy Cycles, the source for all RD parts.
