In my quest for owning vintage japanese bike I've acquired a 1977 RD400 that is currently not running. It's in really good shape physically but the heads have been removed, one jug is off and one piston is sticking out of the lower end. All of the parts came with it but I haven't had a chance to inspect anything closely. If anyone knows of a good place to start in getting her going please respond. I'll try to get some pics up so that you can see it for yourself shortly.

Thanks

What exactly do you want to do to it?? We know alot of guys who race rd's. I gave all of my rd stuff away. Jay Phinizy has tons of rd parts and could probably tell you where to go for work. I can probably get you his email address sometime soon if you want it. Where are you located anyway? Coll bike to pick though. Ive been looking for an rd at the right price for a while.

good luck and lets see some pics

Cool, I would would really like any information that you could give me about local shops that tune these things. I'm in the Southern Maine area so any place in the ME, MA or NH areas would be great! My email address is [email protected] so you can give that out if you like. I'll definitely be posting pics soon.

I'm doing the Yamaha! The Honda(s)are being parted as we speak on Ebay. As for being too old to race I'll hopefully have time for that when I'm 50. :)

hey aaron, jason said you can have that sweet looking front tire for your race bike next year, if you want it. i bet it slides pretty predictably! (like every where you go!!) man that tire is worn out!

Nope, I haven't heard from phinizy yet. Thanks for emailing him for me though. I don't know about just giving away my tire, after all I think it's a modified slick by Bridgestone. Even though you can't really tell from the picture this tire is worn more on one side then the other, maybe its a nasmotorcycle racing tire?

"nasmotorcycle" hey, that was good one! i really liked that. i met a guy a couple of weeks back who was touring the us on one of those big beemer dual purpose bikes. he had stopped at a small deli i frequent. he was from the netherlands and from riding all around the country and his rear tire had literally a faceted look to it. it was completely flat in the middle patch and then very abruptly came to a corner and then rolled onto the shoulder. talk about chicken strips! i have seen tires worn like that from too much up and down riding, but this was extreme. he said going fast it was not a big deal, but in a parking lot going slow he said it got weird.

nasmotorcycle...im going to use that sometime if you dont mind.

which t station do you pick her up at??? does she ride the purple line or do you have to go to malden? isnt malden the closest? i thought it was. ehhh. so, why were you askin bout the trip? wow, you have been working late, it doesnt surprise me though. youre so obsesive about things. once you get going, watch out. dont work too hard. hope things are good. ive been working alot too. but its good. payin bills ya know. trying to get pimped out for next season. if i can get all of my debt paid down this winter, i'll be kickin it. im dying to buy a dirtbike. something under 500cc's cheap. xt400. something like that. i have my eye on a few nearby on ebay. we'll see how much they end up goin for. i want to ride this winter. ride something. anyway, maybe you should keep that message i left. you can record it and post it here. maybe you can start a whole folder of just my messages in wav format or something.

I'm just getting back. The orange line goes to Oak Grove which is the out skirts of malden. I've been working a lot cause I'm trying to get ready to take my next certification ( Solaris ). My certs, more money, means more bikes. I think I may build a BSA 250 dirt bike for the track. We'll see... I 've a about 5 projects to go but want to finish 3 before April, so like I said we'll see.

Aaron - I was just thinking the trip over.

The saga continues! I just realized that my bike has an rd350 engine in it. I've verified this by the engine codes and was tipped off by the stripes on the engine cases. I think it still has rd400 carbs on it... Oh well possibly back to the drawing board along with more stuff to sell on ebay. :(
