Rim corrosion? Old anodize? Clear coat?

All,

I have a set of flanged rims I want to use but I'm having a tough time cleaning them up. They are relatively shiny but there is a clear mottled/non-shiny pattern with some dark spots all over the rims. I figure the darker spots are corrosion but I'm not sure what's causing the other spots. Could it be old anodizing gone bad? Or clear coat? I tried a coat of aircraft stripper on one rim side and it did seem to remove some of it.


Any ideas? What's the best way of cleaning these up?

how are you going to refinish them jim?

If polishing then wet sand them with 300 grit and then polish with a buffing wheel and rouge.

If anodizing then 300 grit wet sand, clean up the sanding marks with a 3m or scotchbrite pad, and if it needs it a quick buff with come rubbing compound.

if painting then 300 grit wetsand and then spray.
