Rim corrosion? Old anodize? Clear coat?

913 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  ROSKO
All,

I have a set of flanged rims I want to use but I'm having a tough time cleaning them up. They are relatively shiny but there is a clear mottled/non-shiny pattern with some dark spots all over the rims. I figure the darker spots are corrosion but I'm not sure what's causing the other spots. Could it be old anodizing gone bad? Or clear coat? I tried a coat of aircraft stripper on one rim side and it did seem to remove some of it.

Any ideas? What's the best way of cleaning these up?

Thanks!

Jim

Hey Rosko,

I was thinking about this. I actually have one Akront that's so grungy and corroded I think it would take a lifetime of elbow grease to get it clean. If you're willing to take a shot at it, email me a mailing address and I'll send it to you for cleaning.

Thanks,

Jim
