I've really appreciated the help you guys have given me. Well now I have another problem. I installed cafe bars on my CB500 and now there's no spark. There seems to be a short somewhere in the handlebars or the controls. I know this is a shot in the dark but have any of you run into this before. Is there a good way to troubleshoot this? Should I just get a bicycle instead?

If you changed the bars then you had to cut the wires if they were stock bars. I would start with a test lamp from the battery, to the run switch, to the cluster in the head light, to the coil. Also I would remove all the street stuff and then just race it. Theres a lot less wireing to trouble shoot.

Don't know if Honda did this, but with my '78 SR500 the headlight has to be plugged in to get spark. Also I'd check the kill switch. And the damn grounds.

aarons right. do it that way. especially check the kill switch. also check your fuse block, you might have blown a fuse while screwing around with it all.
