I've been looking around for motorcycle riding shoes. What can you suggest at a reasonable price thats fairly comfortable?

American made combat boots. Stay away from those made in China jungle boots - You'll be lucky to get 6 mos out of 'em.

Hey man - Big Boots are fine. Google "Hurt Report" and you'll see that much of the motorcycle injuries are in the lower legs and foot area.

Get the biggest "Fack Off" boots you can strap onto yer feet. As much ankle and heel and toe support as is possible. Do not feel self conscious. You can kick anyone's teeth in with them. They will feer you.

I'd look at the dirt bike boots. Very supportive and protetive.

This is not something to skimp on. Ride safe!

If you are much more fashion conscious and don't want to be "the dork in the armored boots" or have to carry a pair of sneakers with you, You could check out Frye Harness or campus boots. Pricey but chicks dig em and they look cool. Although I had them resoled, I still wear the same pair I bought in 1992.

Although I rock the vans a la joe c every once in a while, for a newbie I would stick to a boot with ankle support. You are probably going to be a little wobbly at slow speeds for the frist 2 years of riding and the chances of you putting your foot down at a weird angle are significantly higher.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm kinda weary of boots right now. I've got to find something fairly small exterior wise, I've tried wearing my work boots a couple times on the bike and they just don't fit! I miss shifts all the time because I have to jam them in there. Granted they're a size too big because I lost a bit of weight since buying them (13, wear a 12 now)

I was looking at the alpine stars too before I made this thread. I definatly know that high top is the way to go..hell I need em just to take the MSF course!

I ordered my draggin jeans last night, so shoes are next, and then a Cortech jacket.

glad you are gearing up. work boots: are they steel toed? might be bad for shift "feel". With more protection, it almost invariably requires a period of adaptation where missed shifts are more frequent. no matter, you'll eventually learn how to shift in them.

<gear_nazi>
you'd be surprised at how fucked up your feet can get in the most seemingly benign situations.
</gear_nazi>

I'd also play around with the attitude of the shift lever arm...they're usually mounted on splined axes, although not sure how rear sets affect this situation.

good shoes are important. and actually vans are a little too flexy for good positive shifts sometimes. i hate all those gay boots i see guys wearing. nothing like trashing a perfecly good pair of $250 boots walking around the grocery store or the mall parking lot, if you know what i mean. and talk about increasing the poser ratings.

OK, help an older guy out. What in hell are "Coke Whites"???

I do know that vans are skateboard sneakers, my boys have that brand.

On the street I wear a pair of cowboy boots I got in 1979. Need to get new non slip soles on them in the next 10 years...

I don't think any one of use has mentioned construction boots as you really cant ride in them. Combat boots are tought as nails but really take up no more space than a dress shoe. The fry boots I recommended are pretty small in the toe too.

If they are goo denough for me to work the foot controls of my new ducati (remember built for short little italian men with size 5 feet), you should have no problem with them working the controls of your bike
