G'day.

I have just bought a 1986 Yamaha SRX-6 and I have a few questions.

Firstly. It has a decompression cable for the kick start. I have no knowledge of how these cables operate or how to adjust them. Could someone explain it for me? The owners manual has no info regarding its function or adjustment.

Also I have checked over everything that I can except for one other part. The valve clearances. Is it an easy thing to do myself or should I send it in to a bike mechanic?

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards.

Ewan.

PS. This is her.

You lucky sonovabeatch.

I think the decomp cable needs about .5mm-1mm of play in it. That's at the head end of the cable. Put engine @ TDC.

What's your wrenching experience? Get a manual and have at it. Easy lock-nut/tappet situation.

Go to http://www.kedo.de/ for XT500/XT600/SRX600/TRX850/TDM850 bits.
You can select Engrish at the top of the blue column on the left.

Cheers. Curbtiger. She is a nice machine. Considering I came from a flogged out XV250 to this, it is quite a big upgrade. I have hardly used the 5th gear day to day riding. I had a few problems trying to kick the big single over, but once I got the knack of it all was well.

My wrenching experience is limited. I have only been riding for one year. I have currently stripped down a CB250 superdream as a practice bike.

I can't find a workshop manual for this bike. Only an owners manual which has very basic info ie. adjust the chain and change the oil.
