I got a call from Cyndy tonight telling me that Steve crashed at Beaver Run and had a heart attack. He is in Mercy hospital in Pittsburg and will have triple bypass surgery tomorrow.

Yeah I heard about that on the USCRA group. Do you know if there were any other injuries from the crash.
Marty and Monk Yannerilla are out there with him, I'm sure they'll give me a call when they get back to let me know how he is.

A lesson to us all. In this kind of summer heat you gotta make sure you're feeling good before you go out and race. Puts a big load on the body.

Rabbie had posted this on USCRA board earlier today. Just anyone was still wondering.

"Cindy just called me to let me know that Steve is A-Okay.

He had a hextuple (sp), six-way bi-pass...im not certain, but i think
that might be every valve there is in the heart. apparently, when the
big babboo decides to do something he does it with gusto.

The doc's said he pulled through just fine, and they expect him to be
able to travel home monday. Chris and Eve Stein are planning on
traveling out wednesday or thursday to visit."

from the ahrma board.........

Saturday, a rider from New York suffered a full cardiac arrest near my pit. I called my wife over (who's a doctor) and she started CPR. Another lady, Margeret, who's an EMT, arrived seconds later. Luckily, the ambulance was there about 5 minutes after he collapsed and they used the paddles on him to bring him back to life. He survived and is scheduled for a triple by-pass today. His name is Steve D'Angelis (sp?) and he's 56.

and more......

What an amazing stroke of good luck it was for Steve D to have a major heart attack within 20 feet of a Doctor and an EMT with and ambulance only a 1/4 of a mile away.. That is a lucky man!!!! Great job ladies, it's good to know your at the races with us.

Speaking of injuries....how's your Pops Zack? Feeling better?

Last time I saw him was at the LRRS "National", which was the 18th. The shoulder seemed pretty useless, but not very painful. He was out of the sling for a lot of the time. The cast on his right wrist is a big cumbersome, but they did a good job immobilizing his thumb while leaving his fingers free. He's certainly in good spirits. If it's one thing he's good at it's being injured.
