well, perfect weather and perfect track....except for the sealer laid down in t3. i had the V1 bike out with a goal of 1:34 lap. i didn't care if it was a 1:34.999, i just wanted to break that threshold! 1st race was V3, which is like a round of paid practice (racing with 750cc bikes....etc). got a good start and settled in to a lonely ride till i got passed by gene lucas and his RD400. had a great scrap with him, outbraking him in t1 (that's right bitches, t1 - it's my house)! he set me up good on the last lap in t5 and i couldn't get around him. tried to pull a draft out of t10 down the straight to the stripe, but wasn't close enough. he took 3rd place by a bike and a half length.

next race was V2 and 500GP. i got a great start and beat everyone into t1 (my house, my corner....enough said, bitches!). i checked out and never turned around. three consecutive 1:35's and two, 1:34's (one was a 1:34.4)...so i was very pleased. bike was running uber strong and sounds awesome! it was giving me chills and thrills checking up at brake marker 2 and down shifting from 5th, 4th, into 3rd for the t1 corner. i pulled tt around for a bit and his results showed, but more on that later.

last race was V1, Formula 500, and 350GP. again a great start. went into t1 in 1st in V1, but third overall behind two RD400 (formula 500 bikes). well i was going for the win in t1 and lap 1 and i rolled on the throttle too much pitched over......result: rear wheel came around and i lowsided....with all the other bikes (15 behind me, ouch)! i scrambled up and ran out of the impact zone, noticing that my bike had come to rest on it's right side on the track by the outside left apron. after the last bike cleared t1 i ran over, picked it up and got off the track. i was fine as i slid only on my left hip and right hand (like i was sliding into 1st base). the corner worker was asking if i was o.k., and i'm yelling in my helmet to him, "YEAH, FINE, FANTASTIC, GOT A LITTLE ADRENELINE PUMPING RIGHT NOW!" he looked over the bike and asked if i wanted to ride back to the pits, i said o.k., and he helped to push start my bike. when i came around to the access road, another marshall ran up and asked if i wanted to continue my race. i said, "CAN I!?!?!?!?!?" he was like sure, and looked over my bike to see that all the parts were there and working, but the clipon, ball end of brake lever, and foot peg were ground down, but straight, secure, and functioning. so i continued my race. getting back onto the track, i was a lap down as the leader and second place of formula 500 just came through t1, and i settled in behind them....way behind as i was shaking off the dust and insecurity that fills your head after a crash. TT passes me in t5 (entering the carousel) and it's like....fun, game back on. so we chased each other for two laps, till i came down by front straight to see my number and the meatball flag. whoops, forgot to go through hot tech, then really screwed up when i pulled off the track as i confused the flag as not as a penalty flag, but as a "there is something really fucked up with your bike and you will probably die if you continue to chase TT around. so, i kinda DQ'ed myself, humbled myself in t1 (my house is big, heavy, and hard when you smack against it), and received my first meatball!

the after race party was great with lots of people throwing in for a good potluck, awesome fire in the meadow, fireworks display by the mods in the t10 paddock area, beer, wine, and a little gin.

a great day and night with amazing friends at the track. can't wait till march and VIR. see you all (hopefully) there.

cheers,

texy

p.s.- TT continues to amaze and impress me with how efficently and fast he can ride that stocker. last year he breaks my best lap at summit by dipping into 1:38. in the V2 race he recorded a 1:41, followed by a 1:38. three consecutive 1:37's, and ended the race with TWO 1:36 laps....all on a at best, 30hp stock motorcycle. that is freakin' fast and my candy corn knitted hat is off to him! good show!

since i posted this...il repost it.

first some thoughts about tbhe other summit thread. sotto, i didnt know know you had a concussion. they do suck, but they have their own fun about them. i hate throwing up form having on though.

pete, funny.

the gp suspects were
d'angelo
me
tt
paul...???
steven barber
bucky
bill johnson

anyway, 500 gp went somethin like this. i was gridded on the 2nd row of the 1st grid. with v2 behind us. the flag dropped and i got a good start. d'angelo went by like he had a rocket engine lodged in his ass. we both hung with tt for the first lap. then its like the rocket was given to tt. he checked out, but after tex who motored by him on his new v1 bike where hp really counted. talk about just twisting on the power. holy crap! steve and i settled in behind tt having a fnatastic super clean race. the 350ducati motoring me everyplace where it could stretch its legs, and me outbraking and out handling steve every place i could take advantage of my bikes handling. steve had me riding my ass off. the power of the ducati just got me though, and he strategized a great race, kept a cool head, and beat me to the line by about 50' id say. but what a fantastic race. clean, we gave each other plenty of room, and it was a great time. thanks steve. it was a great pleasure to take in the ducati from every angle! gorgeous bike. excellent race.

tex won the v2 race. nice goin dude.

350 gp was a 3 wave start. w/v1 and f500. 350s were on the last grid, i was on the 13th row. the flag dropped, and it was the same precession for the race. except tex tosses it in t1! ill let him tel the story. we dusted "rolling roadblock" an put to work fighting it out for the next few laps. i tried to wait til i had a good chance to get by steve, when he made a mistake. he ran a pretty clean race for the first couple of laps. chasing down an rd. i watched him try to make an inside pass on the rd into t10, really gutsy, and i wouldnt have caught him probably after that, but he didnt make it stick.

next ting i know, fat guy, "rolling roadblock" passes me. shit, i dice with him for a lap then let him go since hes not in my class, and i figure i wont slow him down in case he can catch steve. then ill jump into the mix if the chance arises. im following them into t1 2 laps later, after rrb runs wide trying to out brake steve the prior lap. i see them all go in, rrb goes in way too hot and clips steves rear wheel and highsides. i see rrb laying on the ground, out cold. his bike in the middle of the track. i come into t3 and theres the red. its an unfortunate aspect of racing, and riding over your head is something that can happen, but shouldnt. as well as just dumb mistakes. id never want to see anyone hurt, but that guy was almost asking for it. i hope he recovers quickly. he was up and around later with a big welt on his head. i hope next year he collects himself up, takes it easy, reels it in a bit, and just rides. a bike that fast should have a winner on it.

bucky and i also raced the xr100s. it was really fun. sliding them aroun the track. buckys going to get good at riding it. thanks for going buck. glad you did it. it was a lot of fun.

congrats everyone. it was a really fun weekend.

sorry everyone that couldnt make it. soto, pete, dirty pete. we missed you guys.

bill did alright. not sure where he finished. im sure he'll chime in. buckys steerin stab mount broke off. (totally my fault, i fucked up when i welded it on, stupid gas!) i think they were both a little frustrated with how they did. you know how it is. bill had a flat in the 500 race, he came in and we got the tube swapped out. just in time. so i think he was a little outta whack from having to do that. we had a new guy with us, jeff, on his r6. hes a very good street rider, done tons of track days, but this was his first race. i think his eyes were opened quite a bit. i think he was hoping for about a mid pack finish at a leisurely pace, but he got schooled. ran both his races and made some progress. i dont think he realized how fast some of those 20 year old kids are compared to his 40 years. but he had a blast. he finished 2nd from last both races i think. but he seems hooked. hes een up for running a vintage bike at some point.

yeah, we missed ya soto.

wow-

another amazing weekend with my favorite people doing my favorite things. all you effers who find ways to miss these events without catheters or I.V.s or other medical obstacles just plain suck....i wish you all had been there this weekend.

tex and joe pretty much covered things. the weather was great and the track was awesome despite some mid corner sealant scattered about the place.... which i actually kinda think just pushed us all out onto the fast outside line anyway, and the pits were a real hoot.

out on the track the big news was how tex was just plain flying around this weekend. it's pretty obvious that a few more laps with the new Hp has created a comfortable, calm, quiet and smooth relationship between tex and the new modified bike. for instance, in practice i was just able to throw the stock bike inside of tex in T9 but by the time we'd straightened the bikes back up i felt this sensual caress coming up my spine as tex's 61x plate came into view and by the time we were side by side i'm pretty sure he gave me a little love pat on the helmet and he gapped me for good....he's a really sweet guy despite the threats to hit my killswitch and crack my clavicles, which would have been an easy thing for him to do the way he was riding. then in the V2/500gp race he just checked out from the very start....i was even on pole for that start and i had no prayer of getting to T1 first...Summit Point really is tex's house. then for the V1/350gp race the stockers were gridded in the back so we did have a great view of tex sliding through the exit of T1, but by the time we were on the scene he was already up and running for his bike. and then how cool was this....coming around for my second lap...off in the distance from the front straight scoring tower i can see tex rolling back onto T1, it's so good to know that your friends are safe and their bikes are sound that soon after watching them go off. so i was just able to find his rear tire by T3 and was able to let him know that his race day wasn't over by T5. we had a good back and forth for a couple of laps and i was looking forward to our dash for the checkered until he got his very first meatball flag (congratulations again, sir) for missing hot-tech.

and speaking of a comfortable, calm, quiet and smooth relationship with your motorcycle, clancypants just keeps getting faster and faster while having the best races with everyone on the grid. in the last three race weekends he's had a dicey race with me, then with MikeO and this weekend with D'Angelo all the while his laptimes are dropping....nice show dude. joe said last year at VIR that he was gonna start riding better & faster and he's totally doing just that.

and finally i have to thank whatevs and dave roper for finding better things to do this weekend than show up and run the GP classes...which allowed me my first two WERA race wins. following tex around in practice was a huge jumpstart to my day and the engine that the monkey/EVIL/J'nt'D cobbled together for me, trackside at NHmS, is still rockin' it. i just hate that the season's over

2 pounds ground beef
1 cup fresh bread crumbs
1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan
1 heaping tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 heaping tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cb350
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 eggs
3 tablespoons olive oil.

1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients except olive oil by hand, using a light touch. Take a portion of meat in hand, [:0] and roll between palms to form a ball that is firmly packed but not compressed. Repeat, making each meatball about 2 inches in diameter.

2. In a large, heavy pot heat olive oil over medium-high heat. When it shimmers, add meatballs in batches. Do not crowd. Brown well on bottoms before turning, or meatballs will break apart. Continue cooking until browned all over. Remove meatballs to a plate as each batch is finished. Let meatballs cool slightly; cover and refrigerate until needed. Crash cb350 and meatballs into t1. Meatballs best served in hot tech with side of gin and tonic.

Yield: About 61 meatballs.

As always it was a great weekend. My bike ran the best it has all season but my times were not so hot. The sealer in t3 and t10 was right on the lines I normally use and I just couldn't figure out how to go fast on another line. Plus t5 and t6 were so fast with the resurfacing that I was totally screwed up in t7 and t8 and never got a good drive out of t9.

It was a drag missing the 500GP race with a flat. It was fine in both practice sessions but when i bump started for the race it was flatter than Debra Messing. Thanks to Jeff and especially Joe for helping me finish putting it back together just in time for the 350GP race. Joe's right though. I wasn't all there mentally when I went out and the sealer turns just had me totally whacked.

Seeing Rich laying in t1 out cold was pretty creepy. I talked with him afterward and he said he didn't remember a thing except braking hard and then waking up in the ambulance. Bet he won't follow so close behind someone into t1 again.

Tim's riding is just absolutely amazing. That man knows what he's doing. Just talking to him about what he's thinking when he's riding is an education. I hope I'm that good when I grow up.

Can't wait for VIR. See everyone in March.

PS. My daughter is probably scared for life after a weekend exposure to you hoodlums but I guess she needed a dose of real life sooner or later. She especially liked Tex's telling her it's be really cool if she had some grass to share. Another plus was that the sight of the spawn beating Bucky with sticks around the fire Saturday night had more impact than any birth control lecture I could ever give.
