i would drop a thin flat washer ,that fits the thread dimeter decently and has an outer diameter at least 1./8 out beyond the weld bead
descale and rough up the bead and weld zone and use slo cure jb weld to fill the gap
something as simple as cardboard tube reduced in diameter to fit od of washer will keep jb from flowing out thge gap
you get good sealing doing this and some added structural strength as well
