The Great Gig in the Sky Thread

With so many of the greatest musicians recently passing, I thought I'd start a common thread and get all the good memories in one place.

RIP Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind and Fire.
This sound really makes me pine for the good old days of realistic expectations and minimal responsibility.

Delores O'riordon, lead singer for The Cranberries dead at 46, on 1-15-2018. The voice of an angel, no more.
Tom Petty's death ruled an accidental overdose from pain meds for a broken hip.
Not music related, but we lost Dan Gurney this week, automotive racing builder/driver icon.
Jim Rodford, bassist, Kinks, Zombies, founder of Argent. Fell down stairs, lousy way to go out. 76 years old.
Dr John, New Orleans music legend, 77 years.
Looks like we lost Eddie Money, finally succumbed to the throat cancer he's been talking about on the show.
Rick Ocasek from The Cars, today, 75 years old.
Wow, just lost Icon Ginger Baker from Cream, Blind Faith. Great drummer, not very well liked

The incomparable Neil Peart, drummer for Rush. He was unbelievable, without peer. 67, brain cancer.

Amazing, almost 60.
Rush had to quit touring because the effort required to be the real Peart on drums was crippling, by the end of the tour he was a physical mess. I am not a big Rush fan but have seen them several times, the first was before their first record. I have been lucky enough to see most of the great drummers going back to the early '70's and 2 really stand out. Keith Moon's complexity combined with the ability to produce more sound than the space shuttle, he could move stadiums and Neil Peart's limbs move at the speed of light and never stop.
Gonna be a lot of Jack downed tonight as many have lost one of their 2 favorite Daniels, Jack and Charlie. God rest his soul. Charlie Daniels was iconic.

What a run. 57 years those guys have played together. Not many business relationships have that kind of longevity.

Just surviving the rock and roll lifestyle for that long qualifies you as being the greatest band in the world. Not sure they are for me but definitely top ten.
