Hey folks - I was on USCRA's webpage just now and noticed that a partial schedule is up. It states taht USCRA Track Day & "School" is scheduled for April 30th. What do they mean by school? Can I take this day to get certified/licensed to race this coming year?...or do I have to take one of the other courses...?

Yeah, I posted that... but that's all the info I have on the day. I'm pretty sure that you can get your racing license there. I also think that you don't need to attend the school part if you just want a track day, but I dunno.

So until someone gives me more info to post, that's all I know.

Great...well, I have already blocked the day off from work. Now, I just got to get the bike running by the end of April! Yeeehaa!

The way I understand it, there will be a newby never raced school, a sidecar school and a school for advanced riders. In the afternoon there will be a "rookie" race. You need to be a USCRA and AMA member. You can earn the USCRA race license there.

Go to the USCRA yahoo user group. You will need to be approved, but it only takes a day or so. There is lots of info on there, but much more sedate than here, and people use their real names.

I have also booked the date off, and plan on going up the day before. There is a Red Roof motel close to the track. I can't wait!

Pete,

Alot of the yahoo groupies frequent here as well. Oh and JB moderates that forum so no gay jokes as he get offended when they talk about Aaron.

As to that track day I as well have it off and will be attending. Many of the guys here will probably be there getting the bugs out of there skills and bikes.

I'll say a roll call will come to play once the date approaches.

peace gee.

Thanks AL, I think we should all head up Sunday evening! Travel the morning off is way too crazy...I couldn't do it when I was just watching you guys... I am totally stoked!

JB I just requested to join the yahoo group...I am Peteyparrothead. Hopefully you'll let me in even after I used "stoked" in a sentence...

Rookie race! They didn't have a race at the Hawk school when I got my license, but I think it might have cured the newbie pre-race jitters.
I got thrown to the wolves at Frontierland (the real one) for my first one. Started in the back of the grid to figure things out. I was pretty nervous not wanting to do something stupid. Turned out to be a damn good time, sort of like riding on the street at 110% except for the HEAVY braking like I'd never done before. You'll end up racing with someone, even if you plan on "taking it easy".

I plan on attending the first USCRA track day as well to shake out the cobwebs, and get a handle on the new bike. Is this the same day that McCallister may hold for vintage? We could have held another event with this warm weather of late.

It is McCallister USCRA day combined.

Yeah, I always wanted a newbie race, but never got one. That first time on the grid having never started a race before was the first time I peed in my pants. Seriously. They still stink.

It'll probably snow that day. Unfortunately, I think it's gonna be an expensive day. Carl's last track days were $250.00.

I did a rookie race my first weekend and got highsided in T1 by being excited and forgetting to brake. Shed the tank and carbs and sucked dirt into the cylinders. Damaged the bike too much to continue the weekend.
Just make sure to brake for T1

got it...get bike running, pay for track day, get bike running again, wear depends, start race, brake at t1, connect the dots, just act like it is your daily commute, it is going to be a hoot! I am sure I'll forget all this once the card is turned sideways!

LOL!

My first rookie race was after the Penguin school many moons ago. In a heavy rain. Basically, if you didn't crash, you got your license. I lead for two laps on my EX500 until people started to build some confidence. Had two people dump it in T3 right in front of me. And then T6. And then T1...

imslow,

Are those the leathers you wanted to sell me???? If that is the first time you peed your pants, on your first race, does it get scarier as time goes on so you do it more??? Just wondering so I can decide what size box of depends to get.....maybe Peter and I will split the price of an extra large carton......

We watched the same thing happen to Joe Ruth at Penguin school. We had our fingers crossed for him to get through his rookie race and all was going well until maybe the next to last lap. Some guy crashes in T2 in front of him and the spinning bike takes him up to the airfence with no place to go. Somehow he timed it just right that as the bike is spinning he slipped past on the outside just before it hit the wall- just like the windmill hole in miniture golf. Wish I had a video camera for that one

Bill,
That was some funny shit. Thanks for the laugh.

Jack the pee-stained leathers will give you more street cred.
Do you guys brake in T1 on the start? Seems like the only reason is to give way or find a line (gentlenman racing). Note: my bike got off the line like a slug last year.

Sandbag the rookie race anyone?
