Not a bad weekend for Team Not Half Fast. Two firsts, one second, two thirds, one seventh, one eighth, and two crashes. Joe and I pulled up the rear with one crash each. The weekend was typical NH weather...for November. Raining and 40 deg on Friday, only a couple degrees warmer on Saturday and just as wet with Sunday finally being an acceptable late spring day. The track finally dried out and it was warm enough to only have to wear one long sleeve shirt.
Tony "the Knife" Coccoro cleaned up with a full podium's worth of trophies. Early in the weekend his bike was running poorly but he tracked it down to a broken main jet holder. Then it was watch out, the Knife's in town. He was the only rider with the nads to show up for Open GP because the track was water and oil soaked. Some riders were heard whining, "My big bike has too much power and I'll probably crash." Tony said, "Sunshine, we don't need no steenking sunshine!". Tony's second came from Euro Cup as Joe stated below. And a very respectable third place finish in 500 GP behind two of the fastest vintage riders anywhere, Rabbie Demetrius and Dave Roper.
Aaron Phinney came home with his first first place finish in the 50cc Cosmo Cup on a bike he had only ridden once before. Not to mention the lack of about 20lbs of air pressure in his rear tire. It was nearly flat through the whole race. A good run in 250 GP put him in seventh place. Finally in the 200 GP event Aaron had a good start which put him in second place. By lap three he had dropped back to third but held strong the rest of the race even though he experienced serious brake fade and nearly ended up in the tires at turn 3.
Joe came with a cooler full of food and left with an eight place trophy in LWSV and more scratches from the scuffle in turn 1 in 350 GP. I wish I could have seen the LWSV race. Eighth is good in that grid, lots of fast riders and bikes. Those mushrooms were awesome btw! You going to have those at Summit?
John Strempfer showed his stuff in Pre-65 fighting his way into second place behind Pritchard who held a commanding lead the entire race. Unfortunately, John didn't live up to his title in 250 GP after a near fall in turn 2 in the rain. But we all still know he's the Champ.
Friday presented me with a broken brake cable and a flat front tire. After a trip to the hardware store and the local Honda dealership for a tube and much help from Tony and Aaron I was back at square one, no track time. I made it onto the track for Saturday's 250 GP race to be sent back to the pits after four laps when I found that water and electricity don't mix. Finally Sunday was dry and the bike was running well. On lap seven of the UltraLightweightSV race I met the pavement in turn 3, breaking my right footpeg and right clip-on putting me out of the 200 GP race.
Considering the weather it was a pretty good weekend. Looking forward to Summit Point and NHIS in a few weeks.
