I would like some input from some who may think they know why this has occurred

This is from my 1999 Kawasaki W650 and if you noticed one of the carbs looks good while the other appears to have some type of blow back soot inside. The soot is only on this side of the butterfly valve. I'm thinking maybe a bad or out of adjustment exhaust valve on that cylinder but does anyone else have an idea as to why this could be??

Soot is only on the upper (outer) side of the butterfly?

I can also see where the breather pipe is washing a bit of the soot off on that side. My first guess would be float bowl level on that side.
I wonder if the carbs only have an enrichment device (choke) on that carb and not both. Would also consider an out of adjustment intake valve....but that would be noticable in the way the bike runs. Lots of popping out of the carbs and misfiring.

First off, welcome. New guys from other countries usually don't get deleted on the first post.
What does the plug look like from that cylinder? If it is rich looking too, then I would also look at the float level on that carb. If you park the bike on the center stand, does the carb still look like that?
I would say there are a few more things you could check after you check the float levels and valves.

I just made a new account no worries

just to answer a couple of your guys questions: both carbs do have a choke that is connected, the float levels are fine, and the carbs are adjusted exactly the same (so wouldn't that mean both would be looking like that way if it was that carb was rich?), when I get a chance I'll be checking the valves and the plugs. and thanks for all who are trying to help

and i guess I'll start signing all my posts with my new moniker

We love guys from Japan...it's where most of our bikes were born! Plus it's home to most of the coolest bikes in the world.
