I sure hope that wasn't his hand...I think it was the piston or something. It would be hard for a piston even at those speeds to take your hand off through leathers and gloves. Looks like it got broke pretty good though.
More than one top fuel driver lost his legs before they started using scatter shields on the clutches and then moved to rear engined cars.
