My god you would think that with all the spam recently someone out there thinks this forum is full of sexual deviants and some of us may even be interested in what the are spamming us with

I've deleted tons of 'em from the leatherwork board I moderate. and they just keep coming...
all the same crap too... someone has to be clicking on this garbage or they wouldn't be doing it.

Typically there really is no "they". It's automated software that spiders the web looking for places to post, and does so when it finds unsecured forums etc.
I seriously doubt they go to the trouble of ad response tracking at the spam end...they might at the link destination end.
The weakness is the fact that the forum software is just primitive. Which is cool in some ways...not so cool in others.

More on what Mr Branson said. Most free bulletin boards, or forums, run off a template based upon two things: a mysql database, and a php scripted layout. Both of these are very exploitable, unless the security is upped by the webmaster. They're usually not, considering most phpBB's are just download and install, and deeper php, perl and security coding is a bit more complicated.
