Whats a storage battery?

I came across an interesting thing on my 2014 KTM 690 Duke when I ventured out to the unheated garage. Bikes are all on bettery tenders and everything looked good with the status lights. but when I went to check if the ignitions would cycle up the KTM would not. Looking further into things the bike I have had dealer purchased in 2014 had some odd battery that says storage battery on the side. I will admit that I was always weary of the battery in the KTM. Was this supposed to be swapped out when they sold me the bike?

I stuck an Antigravity 4cell battery in it. It seems to work well. I was given these things a while back. Amazing little bugger is not much bigger than a wallet.

I was taught that a storage battery refers to any battery that can be re-charged, as compared to single use disposable batteries.
8 or 9 years out of an original motorcycle battery is not at all bad, it will be interesting to see how long the replacement lasts. I think the lithium batteries that came in my TRS are going to be lucky if they last half that time. Note that Lithium batteries should not be charged in sub-zero temps, you might want to take that into consideration if your plan is to continue leaving it in unheated storage, best to not leave it on a charger over winter. You're not suppose to long term store lithium batteries at 100% charge.
I like your battery man. I also hope it works well.

So far so good. Season is young though. Unless the thing gets me stuck somewhere I cant complain as I got 2 of these for free.

I'd be tempted to put them both in if you have the space. Double the pleasure :D double the fun in parallel

I actually made up 2 bridge plates to join the 2 together but tried one unit alone first and than just left it when it worked.

Parasitic drain, cold lithium, not sure but today she would not start. Now both are installed.

After riding the Tuono the 690 feels like a moped with a tractor motor.
