It is going to be my new race bike for next year. It will fit in all kinds of classes. My hope is that in superstock trim it will be somewhat competitive with an SV650. I used to race an FJ600 and the motors are bulletproof if you don't build them. Build the engine and it will eat cranks and rods.

Roy,
Thanks for the offer. I am going to try and see if I can put the deal together. It might get a little weird for the seller since I will have to send him a check and then he will need to wait for it to clear before I can arrange pick up of the bike and it might be too much hassle for him. I'll see what he says.
I hope I can put the deal together cause the FZ is just what I need for a racebike for this summer and this one is a complete runner so I shouldn't have to do too much to it to get it on the track.

I'll keep you informed as the deal goes down.

Thanks,
Ken

Ratty,
I am not planning on doing too much to it. I am going to try it as a superstock bike which means I can change the pipe, the rear shock, fork internals and in this case wheels to 17" so I can get better tires. There really aren't any small size 16" front and 18" rear tires readily available. I have a set of CBR wheels that I have on my Seca 550 that should go on without too much difficulty.

Ratty,
It looks like the deal fell through. He never got back to me so I imagine he found a local buyer that wasn't much hassle.
I don't know what I will do for a rear shock yet. I will look around for a Fox of that vintage if I can find one. Otherwise, I may look at having something done with the stocker. Is it rebuildable? If so I will take it apart and give it fresh oil and try it. If not, there is a guy in Grand Rapids, MI that will rebuild anything for a price. I haven't checked yet to see how much difference there is between the FZ and FZR shocks either.
By the way, Do you have plans for your 87 basketcase? I still need a racebike. Maybe you should uild a racer too and come racing with at Brainerd this summer.

Nope, I was looking at a different one. It was in the NW area of the cities, maybe in Plymouth , I forget now. Maybe I should contact the one you just posted if it is still available.
Otherwise I'll find something.

I am not going to run it in vintage. I will run lightweight superstock and lightweight GP. The SV650 will have to run superstock in those classes or 650 displacement so a good superstock FZ should be competitive. I will put some bucks into chassis and brake setup. I wonder how much modern R-6 type fairings will give on topend?

Are you interested in racing? I think the FZ600 could be a great combination of engine and chassis to be competitive in a oouple of classes in every race organization except AHRMA.

I would prefer not to buy one in Chicago since it is a little far away from me. I contacted the guy in MN that you posted and he said he still has it but then never got back to me about arranging sale details. Some of these Craigslist guys are weird.

Ratty,
If you are interested in the bodywork from the one in Chicago, maybe we can figure out a deal for it that can work for both of us. I am thinking about putting the most aerodynamic bodywork on it I can find. 20 years of aerodynamics should make a difference in topend, especially at Brainerd. That track is long. Would you be able to get over to Chicago and pick it up?
